I don't think anyone would argue that they have an excellent portfolio of potentially very valuable assets.
However, we know from past experience (coal), that this management doesn't always convert that value accordingly.
Similarly, I would acknowledge that there may have been extenuating circumstances in relation to that asset - and that this time around - things might well be different.
Notwithstanding all of the above, I still think they should update us 'long-suffering' LTHs!!

Very decent man JP - I'm still of the belief that patience is needed here. Part two is a great read - comments on Argentina again worthy of note.

Are you Ken in disguise?

This company had massive potential years ago and is worth far in excess of £6m. Ken is supposed to be our best asset and yet we are all guessing as to what is going on. Have we or have we not had an approach for a take over and at what price. Is he at the moment selling us short or trying to negotiate a better deal. We need answers.
I feel we have dragged our feet for years allowing the share price to fall and hence allowing a cheap takeover.
He has sold us short before with the coal so whats stopping him doing it again?

Harmony Gold CEO

"I guess the expectation has been that the gold price was likely to go up. The fundamentals have supported that view with lack of new supply, rising production costs and the fact that successful explorations have been few and far between," he said.

Asked how Harmony's strategy to grow through acquisitions was progressing, Briggs said it was slower than expected.

Apart from assets from the liquidated Pamodzi Gold, Harmony had not found bigger projects to buy he said.

"It's not going very well, there's not much to be bought out there. It's probably an indication that there are not many successful explorations," he said.

"We are relatively fussy, we want to add quality."

Briggs said his company had done due diligence on projects in Indonesia, the Philipines, the United States and Africa, scouring for projects of up to $350 million to produce 150,000 ounces a year.

This is the plan for HOC.
They do see opportunities & plan a little M&A.

Looks possible?

Worth a read again - it seems DN is going to be big and with todays gold price and possibly future price then it seems we should see a fantastic return on our investment. Still hoping for £2-£5 ps at some point in the next few years.

Since they had a cash balence of $116, one does wonder why they bothered unlesss ?
We can see the attraction :

San José I Argentina
The San José silver/gold mine is located in Argentina in the province of Santa Cruz, 1,750km south-southwest of Buenos Aires. The mineralization at the San José property represents a low sulphidation type with quartz sulphide veins with economic silver and gold values and displays geological and mineralogical characteristics.

Title to the San José property is held by Minera Santa Cruz, S.A. ("MSC"), the holding and operating company set up under the terms of an option and joint venture agreement between Minera Andes, S.A. (49%) and Hochschild Mining Argentina (51%), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hochschild.

San José commenced operations in June 2007 and in the second half of 2008, plant capacity was increased from 750 to 1,500 tonnes per day. The mine produced 4.4 million ounces of silver and 54.3 thousand ounces of gold in 2008.

Hochschild Mining plc ('Hochschild' or the 'Company') is pleased to announce the successful completion of the equity placing announced earlier today (the 'Placing').

A total of 30,735,000 new ordinary shares of 25 pence each in Hochschild (the 'Placing Shares') have been placed by Goldman Sachs International ('GSI') and J.P. Morgan Cazenove ('JPMC') at a price of 295 pence per Placing Share, raising gross proceeds of approximately $145 million (£90.7 million).

Surely must be exciting to be the managing director of a gold explorer with gold prices hitting highs and, perhaps, due to go much, much higher?

If I had had invested lots of time and money (the latter I certainly have!) in the company then I would want to do everything possible to position it to reap the benefits going forward. Of course I have no idea if my ´feeling` about Mr Judge´s character as a businessman is correct: committment, loyalty, etc. I, also, would really like to know there is ´good reason` for Hidefield being so unforthcoming with news that might reassure its shareholders, especially long term private investors. But, while the ship is still sailing, without signs of being holed or being overrun by pirates, then I put my faith in Captain Judge to follow a course to the end of the rainbow!

Forgive the poetic licence. But if the managing director is no longer ´dreaming` about what Hidefield can become with the gold price at these levels then it may yet be a case of abandon ship for me. I hope that my judgement of his character is correct, therefore! I am fully behind any determined effort to raise the share price and with a strong wind behind us get the company really moving. If Captain Judge is listening, then ´all the very best`!

Not the norm with the El R, family on CEY.
They have in the last 5 years I have held been exemplarary in their announcements.
Mind it helps to have an Aus quote, so you get info every quarter.

GEX was a little more tardy, & actually held back news when things were bad last year, drilling results etc.The ceo said he was holding back good news until the market improved

In the end the lack of openess, possibly lead to the board being outmanoevered by Goldfields. They looked non too clever in the end.

HIF has given indications of continued work on the drilling recently, we should be due some reports soon?
