14/9/2004 10:11 | Hi I have started a thread called Stock Market Wisdom. If you like learning it's worth a visit. Simon | simon gordon
13/9/2004 14:08 | Saw the steep INX rise pronto this morning but unfortunately I was too slow. I'm tossing up now as to whether to wait for a small pull-back. I'll do a new HPS thread in due course. Regards, DD | doobydave
13/9/2004 12:39 | DD, no probs, be my guest and do the honours for a new thread, I'd be delighted. HPS is doing the business again I see prior to Wednesday - very reassuring (and the same goes for INX - did you get in DD?). | rivaldo
12/9/2004 21:40 | OK rivaldo, I'll hold off and defer to you. Fine by me. I can see you've added charts to your most recent created thread (Invox), which is great; may I make a request that all the HPS charts are included, plus fundamentals? Thanks in advance. As an aside (with apols to others), Invox looks rather tasty, and the chart especially appealing. I intend to research it. DD | doobydave
12/9/2004 20:38 | Yep, tis a good idea DD. I've been trying to motivate myself to do a new thread on HYC as well, so this'll join the queue - but I'll wait till after the results are out I think.... | rivaldo
12/9/2004 17:01 | well results on Wed. should be some good news on trading. It will be interesting to see if there are any other developments to report. | topvest
10/9/2004 18:47 | Think that's a good idea DD - I'd suggest rivaldo if he wants to do it, otherwise happy for you to proceed. | penpont
10/9/2004 18:19 | Would anyone care to celebrate the results next week with a new thread? I'm personally discontented with the lack of charts and fundamentals in the header, and RowJimmy has clearly long since fled the BB. Charts and fundamentals should be particularly interesting if the financials and dividend are as good as trailed here. In my view, HPS is a quality stock and deserves better publicity. HPS management seems disinterested in the promotional game, which I can understand, but mundane threads don't exactly captivate PI enthusiasm either. No offence to contributors to this board - it's always polite and sensible here, and something that no sane person would wish to change. If no-one else wants to, and people feel it is a good idea, I am happy to oblige, but I think the real HPS regulars should have first refusal. DD | doobydave
10/9/2004 09:49 | Yep, up again today and that quick dip has almost been reversed now. Results out next Wednesday.. | rivaldo
10/9/2004 09:45 | If you look back through the chart for HPS you'll see that it has a history of sudden drops, followed by almost immediate recoveries. I don't know what the reasons are for them. I got caught out by the sudden drop in February earlier this year and sold when it fell through my stop loss. I ended up buying back at a higher price, but I'm now a little less likely to hit the sell button when the price drops suddenly. Nice to see that it's working its way back up again after the recent drop. | lizafl
09/9/2004 10:45 | I still am not sure why the price was marked down at few days ago because HPS are listed under support services in the FT and the sector itself has been holding up reasonable well just perhaps HPS was one of the last in this sector to feel a little retrenchment. SERCO had undergone a similar action some two or three weeks earlier. Down from 2.31p to 1.89p and now back up at around 2.16. Which is what HPS seems to be experiencing right now. Comments please? | acamas
09/9/2004 09:59 | sandbank, I wouldn't disagree (and neither would my holding in GFRD which announced some pleasing results this morning) I was merely pointing out that on that particular morning the market had tended to mark down companies which had a real (or simply perceived) exposure to housing markets. Personally I consider it faintly ridiculous that a related news story should have a sector-wide impact on equity prices especailly when the impact of what's reported may very well have no real affect on earnings or asset values but that's what makes the city turn. Regards, t | tomrob
09/9/2004 07:44 | RNS out this morning - results to be announced 15th September. Note no mention of anything awry, so we should be able to assume that results will be in line or better. | rivaldo
08/9/2004 18:22 | A decent buy of 20,000 shares at 270p took this forward again today. On a forward P/E of 7.2 who can blame them? | rivaldo
07/9/2004 15:37 | Also, if you look at HPS' results RNS the residential section comes very low down the list of subjects covered - it's insurance and services that predominate. Nice to see a recovery going on pre-results. | rivaldo
07/9/2004 07:30 | TOMROB: "Nowt wrong with bricks and mortar". The housebuilders are all very strong and the forecasts for all of them look good. | sandbank
03/9/2004 17:38 | Sorry about the colour of your screen today but justified or not I should point out that the only red on my iDealing portfolio (17 stocks [10 blue, 5 green, 2 red]) today comes from HPS and KGN both of which are exposed to the housing market in some way. Regards, t | tomrob
03/9/2004 17:24 | Dont know Acamas, but I've certainly got quite a lot of red on my screen today - a real mixed bag in fact with no rhyme or reason to most of it. I had wondered whether our old friends at the 'Fleet St Letter' (think that's the one anyway) might be behind todays sells. Seem to remember they induced a couple of drops a while back with take profits advice so could be at it again? Just a guess as not even sure it's published today. Anyway, this is just a reminder of the 'trading statement' that came with the aquisition news only 6 weeks ago: " We expect to announce preliminary results for the year ended 30 June 2004 in September. These will be in line with market expectations and I remain optimistic about the Group's future earnings growth." | penpont
03/9/2004 16:40 | Are we going into the silly season JKX Oil have had a bad day as well? Are the mm's trying to drum up business. I will look in tomorrows FT to see if there are many other second liners that have been hit hard today. | acamas
03/9/2004 15:45 | Anyone selling today will be kicking themselves when the results come out. Every reason to buy or hold - absolutely none whatever to sell IMHO | sandbank
03/9/2004 15:02 | I just spoke to a director of HPS who seemed unaware of & nonplussed by today's fall. Results will be released on 15 Sept. Looks to me that retail investors just set their stops too tight after the price has hardly moved for ages and a little spiral started with nobody buying. I've used the dip as an opportunity to top up. | campbed
03/9/2004 14:59 | On the turn already....as you say 40plus, looks like a pre-results shakeout on pretty small volumes with maybe one seller scaring a few others. I'm relaxed (well, as much as you can be when the price drops 6.5% for no reason!). | rivaldo
03/9/2004 14:49 | Tree shake before the results perhaps? - As Rivaldo says the institutions were happy to pick up stock in a placing and the forecast figures published so far make this an attractive buy/hold for me. I'm fully invested and only interested in the fundamentals. Only days away from the results - I'll wait and see from the horses mouth and then look to pick up more at the end of the month when I'll have some more pennies . . . . | 40plus
03/9/2004 13:59 | Acamas, maybe, but look at the facts: - HPS deal with residential AND commercial - and commercial was doing very well recently - so what if house buying activity drops - then the letting side will benefit - HPS' recent statements have all been very positive prior to results - Investec issued a reiteration of their forecasts in early August - institutions subscribed for shares at 275p earlier this year - and look at the chart for the same period last year - there was a similar dip, and then look what happened.... Long-term holders should IMO see a nice capital and divi return over the next few months. | rivaldo
03/9/2004 12:59 | Do you think this could have anything to do with poor press publicity this week re Housing Market? | acamas |
