IC have Derwent as a buy tip of the week today, they say:-

"... while many investors are wary of real estate at the moment, it might be unwise to tar the whole sector with the same brush or be too pessimistic. Derwent London releases its full-year figures for the year to December 2016 on 28 February, and judging by the upbeat tone of the third-quarter trading update, which revealed that new lettings are at an all-time high, full-year numbers could bring some reassurance."

I'd say we're in the same ball game although I think we are less reliant on London than Derwent.

Really! What if all these Chinese investors parking cash start moving it back home as their currency starts appreciating (as the Chinese government have said they're going to do - & need to do to transition to a more stable & self supporting economy).

What happens to all the mortgages when interest rates start to climb to counter the inflation that the above will cause?

Just because london prices have been bolstered by foreign safe haven investing, doesn't mean that prices are infallable.

My hairdresser was explaining to me the other day how she was going to buy a flat, save up for another & then rent it out, then buy another...so she can retire.

Might have another years worth of boom yet though.

Not holding, just curious.

Mike Slade says it's time for property investors to 'buy like hell' as Helical Bar raises £29m

MIke Slade's Helical Bar has raised £29m from shareholders after the veteran commercial property chief executive said market conditions presented an "ideal backdrop" for investment.

Doing very well. Dirctors bought £350k of shares recently...although they'll be getting £130k straight back in the cash return, along with everyone else.

Anyone know more about this comment in The Guardian 18/12/04?....

Helical Bar gained 25p to £10.95 on trader talk that the property company has unearthed a further £40m of cash which it can return to shareholders. Last month Helical put flesh on the bones of its cash return plans saying it would hand back up to £111m and launch a share reorganisation, granting five new ordinary shares for every eight existing shares held by investors.
