I would suggest if you take annual sales of circa £38m and said 60% is digital with decent recurring income then a multiple of 4 x sales would not be absurd. Adding in the cash we are in the £100m area or say £6 to £6.50 a share. Pension deficit to consider in amongst that but it's a quality niche business with a great moat. £6 is my valuation.

Do you think it's worth more than 70 million pounds? Company appears in good shape with growing revenue and profit, strong cash position and consistent dividends. Little sad to see it put up for sale. Some more thoughts here: hxxps://riverotter.co.uk/2019/11/15/iconic-publisher-of-haynes-manuals-up-for-sale

In hindsight, it is pretty obvious from the share price move it the last 2 months , that this story leaked.

I believe there will be a good amount of competition here, with both PE and new media type players wanting to own this. If that proves correct, then nfs's concern is misplaced - the price will be set by competition between bidders rather than between one buyer and the seller. Actually, I think the public process might be a good move that will bring bidders who otherwise would not have been contacted in a closed process, which would have been difficult to keep confidential especially if it was broad. I was also surprised and delighted that yesterday's bid/ask prices prevailed at open and took advantage to top up my tiny stake. The one potentially tricky issue is the large pension deficit, if that is loose end. In the best case some homework has been done prior to the announcement e.g. confidential discussions with trustees. And hopefully current staff will not be worried about their jobs etc, which could perhaps influence the situation. We will see.

Excellent news. I was discounting the rise as being a takeover because of the family control. Didn't occur to me that it might turn into a sale not a takeover. Now the old man has died we can sell the business.... I almost sold last week as taken 13 yrs to get that holding back to profit but will sit and watch now. Hard to guess a value....

The iconic Haynes brand is worth a fortune. And can be used for so much more than just motoring to a new owner.

Should get a good price. £5? £6? "We have increasing revenues, strong profit performance, substantial cash in the bank and an attractive dividend yield record for shareholders."

So a premium in the short term. Good.Would it be possible/legal for them to sell at a lower price than current?

Great good catastropheI'm expecting a bid premium so perhaps short term good but medium term and beyond probably bad because any future business improvement won't be ours anymore to gain fromIf you say you are selling it doesn't give you much leverage in any negotiation

Whilst some form of Corporate Action is possible, I would say it's unlikely given the Haynes family controlling stake and no motivation for them to sell. With respect to newsflow - this rerating is actually not about newsflow, it's primarily about the last annual report breaking out for the first time the "professional" and "consumer" segments allowing investors to see how well the professional segment is doing. It's been there the whole time hence me investing when I did but now it's in full view.

Illiquid market, goes up as fast as it goes down, maybe a potential corporate action. Wide spread with it!

Wow, an ATH , what an extraordinary rise on nothing very remarkable in terms of news. The vagaries of the market. Ride the winner a bit further , or jump off now?

I would actually prefer the price not to get overheated but 450p is around PE15 for this financial year to May 2020. The market valuation at 200p ish as noted in the Panmure note from Sep was just way out of step with reality and the price has just been playing catch up since then.If you look 2-3 years out the current price is still a single digit PE when earnings are likely to be growing at 20-25% p/a

Very thin market, small free float, does not not take a lot to move the stock, they seemed to have made a fair job of moving away from repair manual to all sorts of other things!

This chart is extraordinary ; surely it cannot just be about the recent results? I see there is an IC tip but that was only yesterday.
