Nobody in the West has made a sustained profit building ships in the last 40 years. Yards in the East with exponentially greater productivity and efficiency are occasionally able to eek out razor thin margins. That's why commercial shipbuilding is dead and buried in Europe. Is John Wood going to be the one that changes that? Is Eddie the Eagle going to win a medal at next Winter Olympics?

The value of any company is broadly the discounted value of all its future profits adjusted for changes to the capital structure. On that basis the value of the shipbuilding side of HARL is a very very large negative number. The value of its ML is a small positive one. This stock is worthless imo. Sell at any price. I have a prediction by the way: it's that the ML will eventually be spun off at a knockdown price into a private Newco in which the management team will be major shareholders.

You are correct however that won't stop HARL using shareholders as a cash cow.

Ireland has been named as the 14th richest country in the world according to a study by Global Finance Magazine. ... Not surprisingly, Qatar (GDP per capita of approximatelty €128,150) is deemed to be the richest country, followed by Luxembourg, Singapore and Brunei

'...but that discount amount should not be allowed.' It looks as if the market agrees with you..because they're not getting it.

Glad I didn't put in for any - good commentary here last night. In any case I could now add them in my ISA at virtually the same price if I wanted to rather than be forced to hold in a trading account. Good luck to those that do hold it's obviously not been a pleasant experience of late.

Agree, primary bid is a curse for existing holders on any stock. I'm not a holder, but that discount amount should not be allowed.

These shares are 20.5 bid in a few thousand in the market, maybe a price prop-up bid from the broker to support the share offer. My advice if you have shares is to hit that bid all day long.

Almost any other company would simply be going into administration in this situation. Somehow, incredibly, there are judged to still be enough people prepared to throw another £5mln on this bonfire, so the management shamelessly and immorally keeping milking it, largely for their own benefit. Many of the investors are ship enthusiast and perhaps not traditional finance savvy types, this is being exploited. I implore anyone thinking of taking up the offer to think again unless it's for charitable reasons. This is just a black hole.
