Complacent and sloppy is spot on. Just about sums up H-L these days and I used to be a devotee.

Report it to the FCA. Time for them to get a kick up the back-side. They have become complacent & sloppy since the new CEO took office IMO.

Chief executive Ian Gorham said:

As some people will be aware, we have experienced unprecedented Royal Mail share trading demand this morning. Whilst clearly we predicted and prepared for substantial activity in Royal Mail shares, the volumes involved have gone off any conventional scale. As a consequence of this quite unprecedented demand for trading, a number of brokers have experienced service issues and Hargreaves Lansdown has been no different.

'Has been no different'? Well if you had been no different from TDW or Barclays I would have been able to do my trading for the day by 8.15 and gone out. And what does 'conventional scale' mean?

This company really needs to drop the arrogant defensive attitude. I get it every time I raise any issue with them big or small. I thought it was just the front-line staff but it goes right up to the top. Not much hope then.

They should have known that this was going to happen and invested in decent technology, but why would they? they know they will never lose out.

I've copy and pasted the 7/8 messages that their platform generated.

You couldn't make it up.

The site is working now, except they give you 15 seconds to accept a deal, and their servers take more than 15 seconds to respond. So no deals go through.

Whenever you complain to these people about something you get a condescending pat on the head. If the same attitude is in their IT department, that explains why they can never get it together. "The servers were down, oh that's all right, they can always call their orders in. We'll even charge them online rates - aren't we big and helpful to those poor little people! No need to upgrade the system - it's all right most days!"

Managed to sell at last. As a matter of principle they should refund the commission for time wasted this morning.

Oy, Hargreaves!

Please exempt yourself from the next big IPO. It stops your regular clients doing their regular business. I didn't even apply for Royal Mail shares. I just want to do some regular trading.

You do this every time, don't you. Every April when the new ISAs start, Hargreaves goes down.

Get a grip.

Is the crash so bad that they can't let us know by e mail what is going on. Reputation badly dented.

No access at all today, phone lines constantly engaged. Somewhat unimpressed!

If they don't have the capacity to handle this sort of event, perhaps they shouldn't take part. It must be possible to say,

"Sorry, we won't be processing RMG share applications because our systems can't handle the extra demand. Please try our competitors X, Y or Z."

I have written to the CEO to complain. Not what you expect from a lead player.
Surely the Regulators should be asking questions.

I agree. A disgrace for a FTSE 100 Stockbroker with goodness knows how much under Mgmt.
And the share price goes up!
