By GEOFF FOSTER Last updated at 12:04 AM on 6th April 2011 Hardy Oil & Gas gushed 12p to 194.75p as gossip continued to suggest that one of the oil majors is sniffing around the India-focused oil and gas explorer. Hardy's days of independence have looked numbered ever since BP announced it was taking a 30pc stake in 23 of Reliance Industries' gas blocks in India covering approximately 270,000 sq km in the deepwater Krisnan Godavan Basin.

Hardy Oil price still rises more than similar oils - buyers must have a reason?? not yet clear, but ( 5/6p ) 203.25p - 208.25p again FAR TOO LARGE a spread making the 13.5p gain only for buyers not for sellers.. The rise from mid 140p to todays levels, cannot be easily dismissed, there must be confidence with present buyers which no doubt will show hopefully soon.

Bid rumours drove Hardy Oil & Gas 15 higher to 181p. ( Source Telegraph market Report 29/3 ) Looks like it happened on a fairly thin volume today. Not convinced.

Nick I am not an expert on oil drilling, but some on this and other oil BBs are much more knowledgeable than me, perhaps they may answer your question. I concentrate on the price moves which reflects any oil or gas finds, and at the moment the share price of HARDY OIL keeps rising, so I can only assume that the stock is being snapped up and would appear to be a STRONG BUY target 220p ?? .

w.bramley Thanks for the feedback. Do you know off hand when any further drill activity/exploration is due? Can't see anything really moving until closer to such time. It's not one I've taken note of before but will research time willing.

Reading the results - they seem to be very similar to many other oil stocks, the emphasis being on gas whereas most prefer an oil discovery, but this may come? Something appears to be attracting buyers (up 15p AT 10AM) as yet a mystery more so as most other oils are fairly quite, Could do with a tighter spread. Thought this stock must have potential having an interest from BP. A long way to go to get back to the 2009 levels, hope this may be a start.

It looks like it will effect Hardy. Reliance will still be operator of all the blocks. two of there blocks alone d3 and d9 are the size of 60 North sea blocks, So huge Area.. Poor show from Hardy if indeed BP have taken a 30% interest in there blocks. Some how get the impression Reliance and Hardy (being a very junior partner) do not have a close working relationship . Maybe rns in the morning ?? http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2011/feb/21/bp-announces-deal-reliance-industries http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-12524720
