06/4/2020 13:18 | I would think once the lockdown is over bicycle and car use will surge....who on earth would want to get in a bus or train anymore sharing a space with the great unwashed spreading their germs all over you....I see new car sales have plummeted so lots of older cars staying in the roads getting repaired at Halfords etc.... Adyor aimho!!!! | muchodinero

06/4/2020 08:59 | If you consider that frontline health workers ae not routinely provided with PPE, it would be hard to see how HFDs could provide such equipment for their workers. There are in fact companies that can provide PPE or even testing facilities for their employees, that are not doing so as a matter of ethics. They are comitting their resources to support their respective State needs to bolster frontline healthworkers. It's an example of demand far outstripping supply. | stupmy
05/4/2020 21:14 | I don't think most managers have been furloughed as ours are working, Assistant managers have been as now o my 1 per store. Don't think managers have been allowed except for the closed stores (and they are the low turnover stores so presumably the managers in them are on less money than the big stores) | harris25084097
05/4/2020 21:12 | Colleagues were selected by the store managers with no guidance. Scripts were sent which we were read. There has been some talk ref incentive money etc but nothing confirmed and to be honest the money although handy is not really going to stop the risk. I'm no doctor and maybe in all reality we are at same risk as every one else anyway- only time will tell. Managers wrote emails to CEO asking why the u-turn and the responses were weak and have done nothing to reassure colleagues. The CEO and retail director in my personal opinion are bull headed, do not genuinely listen to their employees and pay lip service to the guys on the floor. Bring back Matt Davies! At least Jill just let us get on with it, My best guess would be that everyone is sitting steady at the moment as an awful time to job hunt but once the madness settles then there will be a mass exodus, I know 4 managers in our area who faked self isolation to make a point, there are others actively job searching and they are known for their length of service. When this all ends, so will a lot of Halfords careers. Divisional directors and area managers have no weight or power, store managers are "bending the knee" to stay out of the limelight. And the customers have no respect for personal space and essential purchase. | harris25084097
05/4/2020 20:28 | Thank you Mr Harris.Cheeky of them furloughing, but every CEO in any company is taking this window of opportunity as it is good business sense. However I do believe the ineptness of your Human Resources has had a very shaky hand in this ref who goes and who stays to potentially catch Cov-19.How did they choose Mr Harris?Did all the staff had to draw straws? Are management furloughed?I feel for all you ladies and gentlemen left on the front line, are you getting ant danger money as to put it?What a mess. | kendonagasaki
05/4/2020 13:06 | Thanks harris. | stupmy
04/4/2020 21:25 | Mr Harris.Come now and do tell me more?Your last post infers only to a prelude that you are on the inside. Are you? What conference calls etc?Whom has said what to who?The cat most definately seems to be out of the bag imo!Who is your Retail Director? | kendonagasaki
30/3/2020 10:16 | The current advertising on social media is really poor taste | argylerich
29/3/2020 22:22 | Who's going to be able to afford 20 or 30K for a nee car? Answer is very very few....time to get on your bike.... | muchodinero
29/3/2020 19:25 | But from Wednesday 1st April, road tax for fully electric cars will drop to zero - and that will run till 2025, which might tip the balance for some who have been considering trading in their petrol/diesel vehicles. Changes in company car fleets also favour a switch to EVs from the same date. Service centres that are properly geared up to dealing with EVs can expect additional work. Not sure how it impacts Halfords, if at all. | grabster
29/3/2020 19:02 | I think Halfords will be one of the only players left in town as all the small retailers will probably go bust... Lots of people will probably have to buy a bike as that's all anyone will be able to afford...no more big ticket car purchases...lots of older cars being driven that will require lots of spares repairs and servicing at Halfords auto centres.... | muchodinero
26/3/2020 11:23 | I guess this measure will hit garages who depend on mot work and people who sell mot related parts and tools suddenly 6 months worth of mot work has been lost although i guess a lot of people will be unaware of this change and will get their cars mot tested as per usual | spob
26/3/2020 11:14 | Mot due dates falling after the end of march have been extended for 6 months | spob
