If you say buy in at 145p yet another thousand times it may happen, I suppose you plucked that number out of the air like the rest of your numpty friends trying to predict a bottom...

Doomster?

Because I pulled the balance sheet apart?

I have stated very clearly what I think. IMHO if they can trade out if it then the intangibles become less of a problem.

Doesn't matter too much to me, if we don't see 145 I might get Barc below 172 or WMH at roughly the same.

Exactly Stupmy, although I think a return to growth has already started the journey. I don't think we'll be seeing 145 again 😉

AR, it could end up being a good thing oddly enough, assuming they are 'shorts', rather than some complex hedging scenario then it could be an indication that price will have to rise to soak them up. I'm not in front of my charting screens at the moment, but from memory I had something like 176 as probable target, then around 200 +. I'll look later. Short closing might give it the launch pad to start that journey. I'm still hoping I've time to add at 145.

Niggle, I think you are on record as the doomster rather than I. I'm merely pointing out that there's a lot of share buying required in order to close the positions now hfd is returning to growth.

Argy

Most companies have short positions. If dues not always mean they are doomed!

Stupmy indeed the info is far from up to the minute and they're usually long-gone before the price starts to rise too much. However 3.59 % equates to approx 7m shares which is no small amount and that's only those positions over 0.5% being counted.

AR, that data is normally 48 hours out of date (depending upon your source). Could todays rise have been short closure? Would make sense that shorts start to feel nervous if the directors are signalling that there are no big problems? Just a thought.

There's still 3.59% of declared short positions that need closing.

Stupmy - You just have to go with your gut and ignore the detractors. I don't know what you have done to upset them.

Over time I agree, but at the moment, trading around gaps has been paying off for me, HFDs has 2 gaps to the downside one closes at 153 (ish) and the other at 145 (ish). Sounds trite (and I don't know what is going to bring price down to those levels, but as I say, it's been working well for me of late and I've also missed out on some surprise drops that would have hurt.
I agree the director buy is very welcome and the chart looks to be on a rip to the upside. I just have to follow what's working for me for the moment. I've retained half of my position, but it's not at a very good entry. I'd like to increase a lot if we saw the lower levels (145) or let it run to my current entry price and let it go. I trade a reasonable number of shares and don't mind where my profits come from.

Stupmy - why would you do that? I can be as bearish as the best of them - see me on BIDS, but I see the MD buying and the better trading as just the beginning here. I hate the balance sheet but companies have been known to trade their ways out of trouble and I smell that here.

There could be a snap reversal to 1.90 then it will depend on trading as we hit the Spring.

I've dropped one of the two positions I opened at a slight profit. I think I'll get a chance to re-enter around 145 or lower.

I think that despite the terrible balance sheet we could have seen the low and Halfords may well trade themselves into creating some value for shareholders.

I think it's an indication that they don't think there is iminent bad news. But insider buying can take a long time to filter through to meaningful changes in share price Check out the history of ENQ (last year or so) and also REA (directos bought 2 million shaes 2 or 3 mths ago). For me it simply suggests the downside is considered limited currently by management.
