Looks like it was the LSE to blame for the strange price quotes this morning!

As my broker has always said "back good management" and it'll be a sad day when KA leaves the scenery..... but he's only young :)

phew glad this came back I was getting a bit worried there. my bro said gvc came in to visit him and said the it was a done deal with lads. Not that i'm really following any of this.. I've started to feel a bit uncomfortable owning gambling stocks actually after reading about how it's the people with gambling problems that make up most of the income, was in the guardian so i don't know how much to trust it. I always thought it was innocent enough, everyone likes a gamble now and then, that's what I'm doing here on the stock market.

Amusing comment in the FT yesterday:

"don’t read too much into the recent share disposal by non-executive director Norbert Teufelberger... Mr Teufelberger sold 400,000 shares at 952p each, thus reducing his stake to 755,276 shares. The company said the sale was “consistent221; with previous share disposals made by Mr Teufelberger, as he pursues entrepreneurial interests outside the company."

They could have added that he has a history of poorly-timing his share sales, as each seems to be quickly followed by a dramatic rise in the share price! So, if history repeats itself we'll see over 1000p soon.

Let Lads management keep the redundancy problem and find another internet based alternative.

And the cost of the redundancies?

Brownie - It seems to me what GVC are looking for is the huge Customer Base of Ladbrokes/Coral which is double that of William Hills.

With only an average of 3.6 years for Lads retail leases a good 1,000 shops can easily be closed with in the first couple of years after any take over.

Also out of all the retailers, Ladbrokes/Corals has by far the biggest on-line presences.

Amaya ( PS ) were interested in buying bpty, I was quite
surprised gvc got bpty. Now though after KA getting the
company ( bpty ) profitable and all sorted it would be a very clever
move to buy gvc after all the hard work has been done, dyor.

The share price is still creeping up, should make 950p, at least, when it breaks upwards - would have thought a challenge of the previous high of 963p was on the cards?

FTSE250 has recovered earlier losses - will we have a nice Friday afternoon here?

Yes quite right, as our KA mentioned the disposal was not
necessary for a Lads link, but the owning of the non regulated
Turkish side would be for a US link as they try to only
award licences to companies within regulated markets.
This would be of interest to PS ( Amaya ), and maybe the US
link is what our old FD did not want to be part of, dyor.

I reckon we will be part of a much bigger company sooner rather
than later, aimho.

Thought it was going to be a pretty exciting day today, but rather tedious so far - though GVC is edging up (filling 916p trades?). Right in the middle of the bolly bands at the moment, so probably some fiddling about here before next break upwards.

On M&A there seems to be real pressure building for more consolodation in the industry.

I have no particular insight into whether Kenny will try again with Lads once the FOBT review becomes clearer. Clearly the issue being kicked down the road is not helpful. I'm glad that Kenny has not bought shops yet, and TBH I'm not sure I want to see GVC ever own a big estate.

One deal that would transform the sector and GVC would be a tie up with Paddy/Betfair, a merger i guess as long as Kenny runs the combined entity. The exchange gives a huge cross sell opportunity. Plus other usual business synergies, and only 600 shops in total of which over 400 are in Ireland and thus not affected by the FOBT issue.

The other big news within the industry is that Poker Stars (Amaya) seem to have realised that their Betstars sports betting offering is not good enough. Their core business is likely to come under increasing pressure too thus the pressure on them to get sports betting right is significant. Thus I'm seeing them as the most likely bidder for GVC. they are big enough and are genuinely motivated to buy a state of the art sports betting business with scale. Getting the Party poker liquidity into their existing liquidity poker pool would be the icing on the cake. I wonder if Kenny knows that thus his cryptic comments following the Turkish disposal?

Just catching up.

888 did not just get a slap on the wrists. It was much more serious than that. The fine was I think a record. The GC were really annoyed that 888 initially tried to ignore the matter thus demonstrating real lack of social responsibility. A real nono in the current climate.

There is little doubt in my mind that a reoccurance would see their license suspending at a minimum or revoked in which case there would have to be a fire sale. Not a good outcome for holders.
