Yes, interesting "trade" ... buying back 331k shares. Running a short position of ~£30m on GVC seems pretty insignificant relative to their short book of £4.4bn, but good to see them actively trading this little position ... hard to understand the short, other than as a pair trade, as neither valuation or momentum seems to be in their favour, but each to their own.

Edit - don't see any specific and obvious pair in their holdings for GVC, although had a very quick look ...

Nice bit of action during a quiet month! Presumably on the back of the Hills results giving the sector a bump

looks like Marshall Wace have reduced their short last week from 1.39% to 1.28%.

I wonder if the mm's tried to shake out the shorters? Let's hope they got scared into closing their positions.

It would have been a lucrative trade to sell and buy back.... but I didn't do it, because I thought something substantial was behind such a spike.

Decent levels of early action then slows to a standstill. Somebody has presumably done their business for the day!

What a rollercaoster. Could we be in minus territory soon?

Could feel the rise so to speak. Interesting times, shame about US regulation. Not over yet but a real struggle

Looks like your sense of smell was correct!

Wild gyrations in the share price Up 18p and then back down to up 7p, now back up 10p. What's going on?

There's some more detailed analysis of LADS update today via Regulus if you've not already seen it Trent.

yes, I hold a load of LADs - a poor investment and underwater but the LADS move up in based on extra cost savings. These synergies can be big as we know from GVC buying SBT and BWIN.

I hope so!

LADS' trading statement has gone down well, up 3.5p.

My recent analysis where I compared each increased short position since late March with the share price at those times, indicated they are sitting on a large loss. Long may that continue!

slight reduction in Marshall Wase's short position from 1.4% to 1.39%, I suspect they may start reducing till september.

Marshall Wace reduced their short position by 0.01% to 1.39% on July 20th.

They did exactly the same reduction on June 29th then increased it back to 1.4% five days later on July 4th.

Hi mylands,

Agreed, and these articles always seem to position it, as in the case of Turkey, as if it's some moral stand against the evils of gambling. Whereas, in fact they are quite happy with gambling as long as its state sponsored and/or owned. These 'clampdowns', 'crackdowns' or whatever the hyperbola are protectionist anti-free trade measures and should be seen as such.

Regards, Maddox

Wow, all the gaming stocks down on tiny volumes. What a bounce we are going to have from this!

I've lost count how many times there have been bearish media reports about regulation of the gaming industry, whilst at the same time I have watched as our 'little' company has risen to the Footsie 250 index. From an AIM tiddler that was virtually, if not wholly, dependant on unregulated markets we are now down to less than 30%, with the percentage continuing to fall.

There will be more of this but then there's also continuing growth here plus the J curve after regulation which in the long run can be better.
