30/11/2024 04:15 | The ICG isnt out of the woods just yet either....APIKUR are digging their heels in as predicted. Zoom News@zoomnewskrd APIKUR Spokesperson Myles Caggins, in an exclusive interview with Zoom News, welcomed Iraq’s decision to amend the Budget Law to resolve the Kurdistan oil export deadlock. He stressed the importance of a written agreement ensuring past and future payments to oil companies operating in the Kurdistan Region oil fields before exports can resume, pending final approval of the law. | highlander7
29/11/2024 22:57 | If The Donald doesn't want Iraq to get hold of gas from Iran then where the heck is Iraq going to get it's gas from.... #OhMy :-) | ptmorris1

29/11/2024 22:35 | Any sanctions aren't intended to affect the Kurds, the intention is to stop the sale of Iranian gas into Iraq and strangle Iran's influence in Baghdad and the Iraqi oil sector. And Trump's first target should be the Iraqi Minister of Oil Abdul al-Ghani. "The measures may target specific Iran-linked entities and individuals, including at Iraqi state oil marketer SOMO. Other sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Iraq's sanctions waivers to import Iranian gas and power would be terminated at a minimum, which would have dire impacts on Iraq's ability to generate electricity. The sanctions are aimed at Iran's pervasive influence in Baghdad, with Tehran-aligned political groups and militias controlling swaths of Iraq's government and oil sector, S&P Global Commodity Insights has previously reported. The dependence on Iran, along with a fractured political system and rife corruption, has enabled militias aligned with Tehran to embed themselves into SOMO and Iraq's oil ministry, sources have told Commodity Insights." | habshan
29/11/2024 22:24 | Apparently Trump is threatening to sanction Iraq oil if exports into Iran (Kurd trucking) don't stop! Could explain ICG urgency on pipeline restart? | kevc67
29/11/2024 22:02 | Powerful friends in high places, or more accurately, VERY powerful friends at the highest level. Two of Trump's most senior appointments are close friends and supporters of the Kurds who both lobbied Biden to get the pipeline reopened. Marco Rubio - Secretary of State:- Rubio is widely regarded as a close friend of the Kurdish people. In May 2016, he visited the Kurdistan Region and met with Masrour Barzani, has repeatedly emphasized for a strategy to support the Kurds and has been a staunch supporter of the Peshmerga. Rubio's understanding of Kurdish issues and his previous calls for strategic support could influence US policy in the region. Mike Waltz - National Security Advisor:- Waltz has also demonstrated strong support for Kurdish interests. 23/9/24 - "Kurdistan Region delegation meets with Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL), co-chair of the Kurdish American Caucus, on the margins of #UNGA79 to discuss political, security and economic developments in Iraq and the Region." 19/9/23 - ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - US congressmen in a letter on Monday urged President Joe Biden to “make every effort” to end what they labeled the “unacceptable treatment” of Kurds in the Kurdistan Region by Iran-backed factions in Iraq. The letter which highlights recent political and security challenges the Kurdistan Region has endured was signed by congressmen Michael Waltz, Michael T. McCaul, and Joe Wilson. The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has “served as one of the United States’ most reliable partners in the Middle East, yet is being economically strangled, politically and legally pressured,” the letter read. “The closure of the Iraq-Türkiye pipeline (ITP) has cut off the KRG from the majority of its revenue,” the congressmen stated, adding that Iran continues to “export oil with seeming impunity, despite U.S. sanctions.” “It is clear that the engagements Secretary Blinken cited have not contributed to a successful resolution to the crisis in Iraq and reopening of the ITP,” the letter added. The congressmen called for a “new Iraq strategy,” further calling on Biden to discuss the issues with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani at the UN General Assembly meeting in New York. | habshan

29/11/2024 16:11 | Think I've read ICG want it through Parliament in this session which finishes 9th of December! | kevc67
29/11/2024 15:57 | 2nd parliamentary read should have taken place yesterday. Just over 3 weeks to Christmas, would expect things to be in place by then. | justiceforthemany

29/11/2024 14:51 | So there you go Sarah. Now you know why the rush to get this done. As it finally dawns on these incompetents what will happen if they dont. The ICG were NEVER in control they only thought they were. Then a possible future claim for compensation against the ICG by AKIPUR ? Who have done a great job by the sounds of it. They have played the ICG and played them well. IMO | highlander7
29/11/2024 14:25 | "What we (although seemingly not you) know is that when a company like BP contracts to develop a field that they think contains 9 billion barrels of recoverable oil they'll expect to have an export pipeline" Absolutely and there will be a penalty clause in the contract specifying the DAILY damages the ICG will be liable for if it isnt open. Make no mistake the ICG have left themselves wide open this time by leaving negotiations till the last minute. I could not believe any government could be that stupid. I was wrong. AKIPUR will get all they ask for. IMO | highlander7
29/11/2024 14:07 | "You haven't a clue as to the BP deal." What we (although seemingly not you) do know Sarah is that when a company like BP contracts to develop a field that they think contains 9 billion barrels of recoverable oil they'll expect to have an export route, unless you think they're going to sell it all at local prices to local refineries. August - "Kirkuk is estimated to contain about nine billion barrels of recoverable oil, according to BP." | habshan
29/11/2024 14:05 | "But she's maintained for ages that there isn't any need for new contracts because the PSC's were legitimate and would remain!!!" And once again you're confused Sarah. What's been maintained for ages by myself Highlander and others is that contracts can be changed provided all the signatories agree to it, that should be obvious. APIKUR have maintained that they have no objection to the contracts being changed provided the commercial terms of their legally valid and binding PSCs are honoured. The KRG have maintained that they are happy to see the contracts changed provided the IOCs agree to it. The PSCs are very much legitimate but nobody has said that they must remain. If the IOCs didn't agree to see the contracts changed they could have opted to sit tight until next September or gone to arbitration, but instead they decided to accomodate the ICG simply so they can get back to work, start exporting again, double their profits and put the whole sorry mess behind them ASAP. And that's what we want as well. What is it you dont understand. | habshan
