Phillis, in a world where EUROSTOXX50 Is close to 5 year lows, FTSE100 is below any level you could have purchased it in 2017 and markets are pretty volatile with most investors ( if they were honest) sitting on some tidy losses this year, most people could do with some “wisdom” or at least be part of a forum with some like minded investors to kick around some ideas with. My low equity weighting and heavy commercial property weighting has protected me but these recent falls have been indiscriminate such that there are some real bargains out there. There is little going on here but plenty elsewhere. Forums like this get stale without a bit of diversity at times like this. But why not let’s discuss how carp the BOD are at communication again, or zinc again, or a takeover again, or share buybacks again....yawn!

Interesting posts regarding diversification. The FCA put rules in place regarding the minimum number of stocks that a fund manager can hold for a reason. If you are doing well on 6 stocks then fine Roddie but in any event GFM should be less than 20% of your portfolio. Podgy in terms of SXX it is 1% of my portfolio. I tend to buy it under 25 and sell over 30p. It is currently down 0.7p since I bought it last - I think I can ride the storm! SXX will need a capital raise hence the fall from over 35p but I doubt 20p will be breached. In terms of GFM happy to see it north of £1 and zinc warehouse stocks falling.

Podg One broker said if the extra funds for the larger spec tunnel is not readily available that SXX could be testing 16p, and if that doesn't hold its free falls to 5p. Oops sage.

alan,

Each to his own . I find twenty stocks too much work to follow. I invest to live . I don`t live to invest.

sage,

What drivel is this? --" So given that a diversified portfolio has a minimum of 20 stocks ."
Do I detect a certain rigid thinking , an adherence to text book theory ? I hold no more than six stocks , having divested myself of several ( including GFM ) in recent months. Investment has been my only source of income for over twenty five years.

sage ,

There is nothing to be said about GFM that has not already been said. Your comments border on the neurotic. Get a hobby.

Zinc up, stockpiles down, and still the SP
drops. How long does that have to go on
before "the helpful one" admits that other
factors play a role in Griffin's fortunes?

You could try discussing Aviva in the Aviva thread, SXX in the SXX thread and UKOG in the UKOG thread and when there is something to discuss about GFM try the GFM thread. That's how it works on ADVFN.
