Thanks sja123! Nice final statement from the CEO:

“We compete with the likes of McDonald’s and Subway, there’s no shortage of competition,” Chief Executive Officer Roger Whiteside said by phone. “But we’ve upped our game.”

Momentum building for Greggs

Baker Greggs (GRG) has managed to outperform despite a tough market.

Shore Capital analyst Darren Shirley reiterated his ‘buy’ recommendation but did not have a target price on the stock. The shares rose 88.5p, or more than 8%, to £11.64 yesterday.

‘In a period when comparatives toughened… Greggs has again outperformed expectations,’ he said. ‘Like-for-like growth is reported at 4.9%.’

‘Greggs outperformance is reported to be broad based, benefiting from new product initiatives, including the broadening healthy range Balanced Choice [and] the ongoing refit programme. A total of 47 stores have been opened in the year to date, taking store numbers to 1,668…a total of 50-60 net openings are expected in the year, we had previously expected c.25 net openings.’

He added that ‘instore initiatives, product innovation, refit programme and cost saving initiatives will provide ongoing momentum to the Greggs story’.

I wasn't as confident as I was Hyden - the chart had gone a bit negative, but a nice response today.

Cracking result today. I'll admit I was beginning to lose faith with the retrace in place since August. A follow up move tomorrow will restore my confidence. :-)

Where's Mike, Terry Trousers or whatever he calls himself today? Perhaps stalking CR again or seeing his imaginary lawyer grassing people up!
