Shorters have the problem of the cost of running a position relative to being long.A fair percentage of shorters had their position prior to the profits warning. They would have to make the decision whether to close or not and a rising price could influence this decision. As the market would have priced in the additional risks and longs review the stock as a potential recovery story.

I agree with Frazboy. Most shorters will not be spooked unless it looks like Real EPS are going to rise from last year’s 1.9p to something like the rose tinted Adjusted EPS of 15.4p that GNC likes to talk about. Real EPS last time was nowhere near covering the dividend and the PE Ratio today is a whopping 82.4 as we can see from the ADVFN table above.

I don't see why the price rising would make the shorts close. Perhaps PI might but the big institutions, no. They will have done their homework, and they will stay short until the facts, as they see them, change. Having said that, the strength of the share price over the last few days has been impressive... will the rise continue? I doubt it unless there is some news to support it

BOOM, short disclosures will be interesting although I’ve see this before and it’s not always so transparent

1.6m UT trade to finish, looks like a little closing to me but what do I know, let’s see what tomorrow brings

Even a slightly reserved statement about H2 has to be priced in here, I’d have expected another announcement by now if there was anything more untoward uncovered in the US, happy to stay very long and watch this unfold

Bjfanc, agreed another couple of strong sessions should get a few closing out all be it for a profit, I’ll be happy if it can consolidate in the 140’s for now, short positions have come down slightly as of the last disclosure now at 14.49% down from 15.02%

If it keeps ticking up, shorters will get itchy fingers and start to buy to close.
