01/5/2002 11:34 | CCNP - we are allready classed as part of the euro its a fore gone conclusion, but joining will be left until such a time that low employment high inflation do kick in around 2005-2006 but like you say short term is were im at with the USA,they have had there cake and a whole lorry load as well, but forgot to save some for today. | pmeas
01/5/2002 11:20 | pmeas - only if you take an extremely short term view. Are we meant to think we are better placed - YES. Do the figures say we are better placed - YES. But you cannot believe the figures. We now have a Civil Service that for the first time in its life tells voters to get out and vote or else the Governing party will loose seats on Thursday. It does as it is told by AC. History does not support the view that the UK, or any other trading nation, can sustain an alternative existence to US linkage on its own - not without a catalyst for change; The Euro is such a catalyst. It means EU linkage instead. We have to cut apparent interest rates by 35%. Do we get massive infaltionary boom or does consumer spending turn inward rejuvenating our industry giving us full employment and rocketing labour prices. The alternative is the US approach to Mexican imigration. Either way, the domestic economy is shagged. Banana republic status within europe may be better than banana republic status on your own. | ccnp
01/5/2002 09:59 | CCNP i do understand where you are coming from im just trying to illustrate that we as a nation are better placed at the moment than the USA. | pmeas
01/5/2002 09:54 | He hasn,t got his fingers in my pension its offshore and staying there. | pmeas
01/5/2002 09:43 | pmeas - the 1999 figures aren't anything to write home about. Typical bit of spin for gullible consumption How is your pension doing or are you a loyal socialist who only believes in the state provided pension ? GB took a massive chunk of all invested pension returns in his first budget but did it quietly so you could pretend it never happened. When you and your children come to retire, do remember to thank him for his prudence. | ccnp
