@WC ...what were you expecting from Boris, really, he is a complete fraud, always has been, and as for that dim witted dregs of a cabinet, you need a leader of the calibre of Merkel to handle something like covid, not the brexit dipsxxts we have. On another point, I wonder if this is a potential takeover target, sterling is worth nothing these days against the dollar and euro, GSK has huge debt but that would be in the price, I dont need a comment from you thanks Spud, people are going to say would the U.K. government stop it on strategic grounds, I’m not sure they could as long as vaccine contracts were honoured. Present management are the usual useless brit half dead debt junkies so a hardcore US outfit or maybe Roche could extract value......
Surface Oncology hires bankers to explore sale - StreetInsider Surface Oncology (SURF, +16%) is climbing sharply on a report that its exploring a sale. The company received a takeover approach from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK, -0.1%) and has hired an investment bank, StreetInsider reports. Surface Oncology wants bankers to look for any other possible M&A interest beyond GSK, StreetInsider says.

A very interesting report. The only bright spot for GSK is that it has fallen so far behind it might be ripe for a takeover...Also some very interesting comments at the end of the article.
Part of it is that AZ have a much higher proportion of R&D staff whereas GSK have cut more than half in the past 10 years. They also seem to embrace risk more. Lastly I think the Pfizer takeover gave them the impetus they needed. Try as they might, GSK have never improved at anywhere the same scale which is why I’m concerned about them becoming a stand alone pharma without the crutch of consumer and vaccines..
It’s perhaps not surprising that the worth of healthcare companies should emerge during a global pandemic, but we should offer thanks for the UK’s big pharma twins – AstraZeneca and GlaxoSmithKline (continued) ....
