Re-invested my original stake this am.
This is all “cable” in my view. Unfortunately US markets closed today to gauge underlying performance.

EDIT: US markets Closed Monday 02/09 as abdulla corrected below.

Just bought in to Glaxo after being out for couple years. Personally think it’s very cheap and could rise hugely over next five years. I’ve a stretch DCF of £30 but I might be being a bit optimistic but not hugely so.

Cable (or the cable) is a foreign exchange term used for the GBP/USD currency pair rate (British pound priced in US dollars).

The term cable is a slang term used by forex traders to refer to the exchange rate between the pound and dollar and is also used to simply refer to the British pound itself. The term originated in the mid-19th century, when the exchange rate between the U.S. dollar and British pound began to be transmitted across the Atlantic by a submarine communications cable. Since that time the exchange rate has been referred to as the cable.

The first Transatlantic Cable was laid under the Atlantic Ocean in 1858, but it failed after only about a month of fitful service. The first truly successful cable across the Atlantic was completed in July 1866, reliably transmitting currency prices between the London and New York City Exchanges. The first such exchange rate to be published in The Times appeared in their issue of 10 August 1866.

Transatlantic communications are now mainly carried by optical fibre cables, supplemented to a small degree by satellites, but forex traders' nickname for the pound-dollar pair still harks back to the old days of copper telegraph cables.

The best has already been taken out of cable imv. The guy to follow on ADVFN is Alphorn he has called it absolutly correctly and I believe he is now square having sold the £ all the way down.

Yes, Beckers, I'm not on the side of the talking heads.
We may well see parity.
(I think it was 1985 last time at parity).

Thanks tim 3, indeed.

S,

"Some market talking heads say cable at $1.20/$1.22 prices "no deal brexit" in"

I have heard some analysts talking $1.00/£1.00 parity! If there is a "no deal Brexit".

FTSE-100 is being held back by Brexit and it is only circa 230 point above what it was in the Xmas period in 1999! Much catching up to do.

Good work to tie up with Pfizer so much good news to come, hopefully?

The FTSE-100 is currently a cable play, imv.
But on GSK there's reistance at current $41.7/$42.2 on the ADR's.
Upside from there would be to about $44 (£18/share at $1.22/£).
Some market talking heads say cable at $1.20/$1.22 prices "no deal brexit" in.

Agree, tim 3.
But I'm closing today for £1.30 profit on my long trade.
Will re-visit if there's a breakout between 1722 and 1749 at longer term resistance.
Good luck!

GSK has been more or less aligned with FTSE 100 since 1st August. I'm guessing this will continue until some news specific to GSK causes it to break away up or down. Difficult for those of us wanting to buy - unless you've got a crystal ball.

Its just shaking out the novice buyers who bought on the way to the top.

There could be a short-term double bottom here, on 1650p, or possibly a triple bottom.
