Relentless selling by hedge funds who would not dump stock like this and in this quantity without inside knowledge and good reason. First trial just days away. PI's do not move share prices...

US adr's after hours closed equiv. to £14.58 at $/£1.22 exchange rate. The storm if that, seems to have gotten a bit ahead of itself and these court cases have been in the works for some time. The background is well known and well defended by the big names connected with the drug Zantac.

I imagine Jope over at Unilever can't believe his good fortune now.As Napoleon was attributed to have said, 'Give me a lucky general rather than one who was good'.

I do hope we are not going to see a repeat of BP deep water Horizon incident.
Lawyers fighting to claim while competent engineers fought to mitigate the damage.
The current President (Obama) courted popularity by talking nonsense.....
BP almost went bust with some $60 billion in damages.
It is hard to accept that these drug companies deliberately or carelessly marketed products that they knew could cause harm.
Let them all learn and then address the issues rather than try to destroy the companies.
Ultimately society loses if drug companies are unable to manufacture and market new drugs without constant fear of litigation.

On holiday atm so just catching up on this and some posters are possibly
missing an essential point - that substance was not supposed to be in the
medication, whether because of storage/manufacturing etc.

I took Zantac on prescription prior to the advent of PPI's
and large numbers of patients were
prescribed that for years - so even if exposure is minimal,
for some it will mean prolonged daily exposure to a substance that was
not advised. If you buy a packet of bacon, as an example,
it will usually state .contains nitrates, unless nitrate free.

It's incredibly difficult to even begin to quantify, all at a very early stage
which will likely take many years.

I had a recent small position in HLN, which was only closed as reduced equity
exposure prior to going on holiday and it had popped back over £3 - that's down to
good fortune only as had not read the listing prospectus where reportedly it's mentioned in the risks section.

At times like this, Institutional traders simultaneously short and sell a load, then buyback then close the short once the price has been trashed and the news aint so bad

The close and buyback will come tomorrow i expect. That's my theory and i'm backing it.

So I bought back a few. £14.20

spyder - remember that the levels found in tablets etc., though comparable to foods in percentage terms pose a substantially lower risk due to the amount and frequency and span ingested

we all seem to be thinking the extreme volatility is all down to the Zantac news.
I don't believe it is.

One other point, the companies that have potential exposure to this litigation include (but not limited to!):
GSK, Sanofi, Pfizer, Boehringer and a host of generic manufacturers
There will be no shortage of legal support for the defence!

I have just listened to the recent Sanofi earnings call where they took a question about the potential Zantac liability and also viewed Scott Gotlieb’s comments on CNBC (thanks Careful1!).
Both seem to think that there is very little risk of liability with these litigations.
MDMA is found in many common food stuffs (especially grilled food) and water. The amount of MDMA in Zantac is at similar or marginally higher levels.
Sanofi Execs say that “the science does simply not support the plaintiffs’ claims and “there is no reliable evidence that Zantac causes cancer”.
Further, the product was withdrawn as soon as the FDA highlighted any potential risk, so hard to claim negligence here.
Scott Gottlien was the FDA Commissioner who published the original FDA guidance in 2019 (so he knows what he is talking about!) and he also says that amounts found “barely exceed the amounts in common food stuffs”. He also made the point that MDMA has been found in MANY medicines since the FDA started looking for it.
All in all, it seems to me that the share price fall is a massive overreaction.
