I thought that a sale wasn't on the table as far as GSK are concerned. Sounds like some are expecting a different tack with results on Wed. I wouldn't hold your breath. I want value here too and we aren't getting any as things stand.

Indeed Ftse seems to be in lock step with US futures, which ticked up a little. Wonder if our beloved will join in ?

Keyno: I did say over the weekend that the important thing was the cost of toothpaste etc but some poohpoohed the idea. But in reality the selling of the consumer side is what is going to shift this price.

Spoole5: With the incredibly low share price I think we can say bad figures are already factored into the price.
If the figures were expected to be good it would not be 1400 it would be 2000.
I guess we're talking about how relatively bad.
If only slightly relatively bad could rise to 1500
If expected bad could settle about 1425
if worse than bad could go to 1300

That is my very point!
The more profit it makes NOW the better price we will get for it.

To my mind the URGENT profit is the consumer profit because its basically up for sale.

The pharma side really needs good trial results and good promises of future growth.

The consumer side needs good growth story NOW as its up for sale NOW.

What will determine the valuation and future share price is what both companies are worth, with the new Pharma being the most valuable of the two. Your original point was that higher consumer sales would boost the share price That would only be true if accompanied by better vaccine and pharma sales. If the latter are poor, the consumer sales are unlikely to plug the gap.

In the split of the two companies next year, what really is going to count is how much is the toothpaste company worth......
The more sun blocker and toothpaste that are sold the more GSK will get for that part of the company and thus the more money our shares will be worth.

In a sense we're selling a toothpaste company and we want as much money for it as possible. That is the name of the game for the next two years.

Unilever is the 2nd biggest company on the FTSE100 by market cap.
and Reckitt Benckiser 12th

Like many people you're getting blinded by tech and drugs. What really counts
is the profit made by toothpaste and sun cream.

Of course AZN is number ONE on the UK stock market today but is that because
people have got covid19 on the brain? I think they do.

It's not that material if the other two businesses are underperforming. Toothpaste sales don't move the needle.

If its accounts for 25% or more, then any good growth in consumer side
is going to boost the entire company.

alex1621: Well we know that "food" sales have been doing well. Since household good are in the shelves in the same super markets its probable that Glaxo's consumer products (toothpaste etc) have been doing well.

And sunburn products? Come on they must be doing well!!!!

Bear in mind there is an update on Wednesday next week. So don't expect much activity. The only people buying or selling heavily this side of an update have inside information.
