Do Glaxo have a flu vaccine? I suspect this winter its quite possible we will have a double whammy of covid and a nasty flu bug. If glaxo have a flu vaccine we could be quids in.

French pharmaceutical giant Sanofi says its much-awaited Covid-19 vaccine should be available by December – news the government hopes will convince sceptics to get themselves vaccinated. Made in partnership with Britain’s Glaxo GSK, the vaccine uses recombinant proteins to trigger an immune response – the same technology that is used in one of Sanofi’s seasonal flu vaccines. "This is the technology that was the most efficient a year ago, before messenger RNA,” Sanofi France chairman Olivier Bogillot told France Inter on Monday, adding the method had been “proven for a few years now”. Messenger RNA (mRNA) is the pioneering technology used in leading global Covid-19 vaccines made by Pfizer and Moderna. Sanofi has begun pivotal phase three trials on its vaccine, which uses a adjuvant – a substance that helps boost the immune response. Phase two trials showed a high antibody responses in all adult age groups.

The consumer side is easily the biggest part of the company. Unilever is about the biggest company in the FTSE100 and its all consumer products. At Glaxo's current valuation the phara side is valued at ZERO as consumer products alone are worth 70b Cheers Net.

EW should step down prior to the split after placing two good CEOs in place in each business. Job done, on to the next one.

Money and ego. Running Consumer would be viewed as a step down in position, a demotion.

I fail to understand her fixation on running the Pharma where she has no credentials, as opposed to the consumer healthcare where she has kinda been involved before.spud

EM has to go, and the appropriate timing would be at the split. At best she could end up with the toothpaste etc., but there will never be a better moment to shift her away from vaccines and pharmaceuticals which are her weakest cards.

I can't help but being struck that more and more papers report the large Elliott stake as a "fact". Either their journos are all being taken in, to a (wo)man, or there is some truth in what they're printing, or they are all copying the original story. Or something inbetween. Interesting. I hope the story about Elliott is true - and the FT printing it gives me some hope that it is - and that the board and other large shareholders are merely biding their time before giving her the old heave-ho.

Fund managers and other commentators were queuing up to attack the US buyout groups who have been swarming through the London market, buying up companies on the cheap. Morrisons’ bidding battle seems to have ignited a growing resentment among shareholders, employees and other stakeholders against PE firms’ activities here.

when they say toughest - what does that mean? Boxing? or what? Surely that is a meaningless expression. I understand smartest, that could mean nice dresser of is in upper quartile in Mensa tests. In a more general sense, a typical UK pensioner relying on state pension is probably smarter and a tougher money manager then these rich Americans born with a shed load of silver spoons in their mouths. They probably couldn't fight their way out of paper bag.
