Interesting that shorts increased by 0.09 so they still had 0.45 on short.. they have to buy back at some point and I am stunned they are shorting here but will all help when they buy back. I suspect they may be selling into the 130 momentum buying to try and stop the breakout.. I've said before I think shorts are hiding just below the declaration level and this confirms it.

I heard somewhere that there have been certain Chinese troop movements.
China has intervened before regionally. Who remembers their war with Vietnam post the US leaving?

Brent $52.45

Hi cyan. Ref China that thought has never crossed my mind but it's more than viable. The last thing China want is a unified Korea on their doorstep. I agree it's not wise to underestimate trump I just can't see the DPRK striking first. Surely that would be suicide. However today's threat is not ignorable but is surely an empty reaction to trumps fire and fury comments.

Good afternoon traideMark.

I would not under estimate the risky behaviour exhibited in the US/DPK.

Obama messed up by creating a red line over Syria and then bottling it.
Trump DID strike at Syria.

I think it quite possible Trump will do the 'unthinkable'. Trump has al-sorts of political issues at home.
Remember how unpopular Thatcher was? The Falklands war turned her reputation around.
Trump may see giving DPK a bloody nose good for his ratings.

Frankly, I would not be surprised if China engineers regime change by marching in.

Too many positives not too be invested here ! The market has seemingly all but ignored the ridiculous threat from DPK also. Just a tantrum because of restrictions imo.

I would be pretty content if we could move into the $55-$60 range; that would be a significant break through and a poke in the eye for experts who say we are stuck in a $45 -$55 range .

Brent now %52.42 ; excellent

If Venezuela defauls sometime this year I can see oil price at $60, $70 even $80.

Venezuela has $5 billion in debt maturing before the year is out – both in sovereign bonds and in debt payments by state-owned oil company PDVSA.

Even with lower output because of improved terms cash pouring in from taq taq . If we can get output back to even 20,000 bopd we really are laughing.. I guess it helps OPEC with cuts!

OT comments regarding BLVN for iggyb67;

The plan appears to be break up and return assets proceeds to shareholders.

The principal asset is ETINDE an already farmed into asset of which BLVN retains a 20% interest with $40 million USD of free carry on appraisal drilling which could add 2 TCF to the volumes and hence greatly increase overall value.

I reckon that 20% could be worth North of £77m sterling, BUT THAT IS MY GUESS WORK. Malcy has previously written that the new team in charge already have a buyer lined up. However that was in March.
I suspect that they are looking to maximise return by staying in until the drilling has been done. A better return would be the result.
Important to note BLVN will get a $25 million USD payment on FID.

Movement forward has been delayed by issues with the Cameroon government who now want a free carry for their 20% interest contrary to their previous agreeing to pay their share of costs.
There has also been some disagreement about the best off take solutions.
There lays the issues that have eroded confidence to the share and the impatient to walk or not invest in the first case.
However; ETINDE is a class asset with serious upside potential.
You will note BLVN is debt free, has an enormous cash pile (thanks to the farmout) ,and a very low share price.
Long term ; its a no=brainer , BUT that's MY OPINION. Check over the numbers for yourselelf and factor in the slow politics and then decide if its for you. One for the patient but , as AIM shares go, one of the safer ones to invest in , IMO.
