GCP is to sell its hotels to numura (Japan)who will purchase because they own half of granadas tv rental chain .Hotels include forte, heratige and travel inn. This will bring £££££s for GCP=Share price up.

SLL - It's odd that GCP doesn't get a big response on this board. I agree with you I want to get more prior to the split and current pricing looks attractive. I think most people on this BB follow the small cap stocks but GCP has IMHO a lot going for it right now. Even the adoption of the (allegedly) more conservative accounting policies of Compass is a plus.

Losos - Thanks for your comments. In view of today's price moves (both down) on GCP and GME, my assertions have been all too quickly tested. However, I still hold 'both' and will continue to do so until new FACTS emerge to suggest that it is prudent to do otherwise.

This is a much misunderstood and oversold stock right now for a variety of reasons - lingering doubts about rationale behind Compass deal, accounting policies, 'to sell or not' (and at what price) re Post Houses etc, obfuscation of GCP stock pricing re Granada Media (80% owned by GCP) and a major part of the group's break up value and also (hotel) sector worries that have hurt Bass, Whitbread and Scottish/Newc. this year (all now v big hotel operators these days rather than brewers). Near term patience should be rewarded in light of the clarity that the Sept'00 consolidated results should inject. Compass is a good and growing worldwide business that is arguably more defensible and higher margin than the pure hotels division. There were cost synergies behind the merger. Granada Media is a dynamic gem. The weaker hotels division has some very good constituents. Finally, these thoughts may prompt ideas rather than offer new information. Hang on in there Tortoise !

Freefall in GC price was because a significant fall in profits had emerged but this information was only released to a few brokers by their finance director--- as he thought it was not price sensitive!!!Stock Exchange who are supposed to ensure a fair market have done nothing.Meanwhile the private investor gets stung again. With the net its easy to distribute news fairly so why arent these cosy finance director-broker relationships stopped and when will the LSE start to ensure their listing rules are followed Mr Cruickshank
