Correct 888. Plus the proposed power stations are to be built using the latest super critical technology which will reduce pollution even further. 40,000 residents will get payments plus new houses and towns and jobs to transform their lives. 160 million people get a reliable and cheap energy supply to transform their lives.

The pollution is caused when you burn the coal so the imported coal will pollute just like the home produced coal. Except the home produced coal at Phulbari is very high quality and hence pollutes less than the low quality imported coal. Further if you have to transport coal from another country that massively increases the carbon foot print and the pollution. If you mine the coal and then use it at a mine head power plant that is highly efficient at reducing the carbon footprint.

The latest news are that bangladesh will give priority to coal import...not own coal

Politically who will take the decision to pollute the country and displace more than 100’000 people???

So Nasril Hamid is laying the groundwork for Bangladesh to use it's own coal resources. He sees it as a priority on cost and reliability.

No doubt the coronavirus pandemic is delaying things but as Tang himself said "Whilst the Covid-19 pandemic has delayed our progress with the Project, we believe that it has encouraged the Government of Bangladesh to review and enhance its energy security by utilising local fuel sources, following supply and importation disruptions. This supports our strategy to become an impact project for the people of Bangladesh, providing low cost and sustainable electricity in-country, by combining the Company's coal mine proposal with mine mouth power plants generating 6,000MW."

Encouraged - past tense, not 'will encourage', but 'has encouraged' indicating it has! 😀

What nasrul hamid said last november was before the crisis. The situation has changed and will change for many years.

Nov19 Nasrul Hamid

"The state minister said the country has no enough gas to produce entire electricity. “So, we have to import gas as two sectors are heavily dependent on natural gas—industry and power,” he told the audience.

He said the government has to keep in mind two things while generating electricity— affordability and uninterrupted supply. “Keeping in mind these two things, the government has to go for base-load power plants which are coal-based, gas-based and also nuclear power plants,” Nasrul added."

Aug19.

“The government will put emphasis on using coal from domestic sources in these plants instead of importing from abroad. However, it will have to be kept in mind that the environment should not be affected by this,” Hamid said.

This guy is dreaming about behuge every days and nights. That’s crazy.

888 i don’t want to ruin your hopes and expectations but this article means nothing. Phulbari has been named several times in many articles during the two past decades.

If a project is submitted and accepted the protesters will make everything in their power to ruin it. Trust me. And they can delay it for many many years.

Who will be taking the risk politically??

This is a pure trading share for mm’s

hxxps://www.eco-business.com/news/bangladesh-to-double-fossil-fuel-imports-in-coming-decade-as-renewables-lag-behind/ That is a link to an article posted on another bb regarding how Bangladesh needs a lot more coal as renewables only account for about 6%. There is a link within the article which was written in November 2019 to 29 proposed power plants and Phulbari is mentioned for 2 plants with one due for commissioning in 2024. This is very positive.
I posted this on Thursday and it has been commented on a few times. I should perhaps make clear that the article itself is dated 14th May 2020 and it links back to the November 2019 article for its information on the 29 coal fired power plants including 2 at Phulbari which will use own coal whereas 25 power plants will use imported coal.
Take a look at the publication Eco- Business. This is a publication promoting low carbon sustainable and renewable energy. It doesn’t like what it is saying about coal in Bangladesh but is having to accept the reality that renewables can’t even get to 10% and coal is the only way to make it work over the next 10 years.
Look at the big picture. Bangladesh as a fact is going to need and use a lot more coal. The most economic way of doing this is to use own coal if you can because it is cheaper and in the case of Phulbari far less polluting than imported coal.
The time is right for GCM to make their submission to the Bangladesh Government and for the Government to approve it.

"Chinese banks and companies are leading the dirty energy drive, funding over half the projects. UK- and Japan-based companies are involved in three proposed coal projects each"

I wonder what 3 proposed coal projects a UK company is involved in. Imagine if they tied up with Chinese banks and companies.......

I can feel it in my waters, GCM could be huge! 😀
