13/1/2022 10:07 | I am not sure that investors should devote much attention to LOTR. It is a very small part of The Hobby (and thus, the business). 40k and AoS are the prime IPs. The new 'Old World' game, reinvigorating the pre-Age of Sigmar Warhammer Fantasy universe is probably going to be way more important. Could this change? It would be wonderful if a new/refreshed LOTR game DOES interest more people in taking up The Hobby, but GAW would have to invest far more into it than they do at present. Just browse the miniatures range on the website, comparing LOTR to even a single faction in Age of Sigmar, and you will see exactly where the fantasy action is. Anyway, at best LOTR will be a gateway inducting new players into AoS or 40k. The Eisenhorn TV series, on the other hand, I think is very exciting. Far more promising both from a hobbyist and investment perspective than LOTR. Could be wrong, of course. The other tid bit I found most relevant, is the company's stated aim to improve engagement with the fanbase. I know that since the share price slide any derivation from the orthodox view is berated on this chat board, which used to be an oasis of polite and interesting discussion. But hey ho, there we are! | cambst
13/1/2022 09:01 | Regards competition perhaps Asmodee?? | cockerhoop
13/1/2022 08:39 | Shanklin, Nod, I think there's some confusion around LOTR and Amazon. A new licence is required to produce characters for the Amazon series - I was under the impression that this licence had been obtained (notes from a brokers site visit in 2019 I think) but asked the following question in Aug 21. 2. The Amazon LOTR series is scheduled for a September 2022 release date. My understanding (chatting to Kevin at a previous Agm) is that Games Workshop (GW) would require an additional licence to use the IP. Does GW have this licence? From our discussions Amazon have not yet decided on what or how they are going to licence this new IP.</> | cockerhoop
13/1/2022 08:37 | I am not that sure of what they can and cannot do it. If I understand correctly their figures can show the Peter Jackson LOTR characters which is the Third Age of the Tolkien books. Amazon has licensed the Second Age of Tolkien and it seems it is not allowed to reference directly the Peter Jackson storyline. I take the info from here: However, I do still think it can spark an interest and nostalgia so still I think it is positive for Games Workshop. If anything, it is unclear how much upside it can capture indirectly from it. | princesa_consuela
13/1/2022 07:55 | Nod Do you by any chance know the duration of the LOTR licence, and that GAW can produce figures based on the actors in the new Amazon production? TIA. | shanklin
13/1/2022 01:04 | Remember that from 2 September 2022 we have the new Amazon LOTR TV Series. This will be huge and will draw a new generation into Tolkien and LOTR. GAW has the licence to produce models of the characters and to create tabletop games.Just as we saw 20 years ago, many of the new recruits will graduate to the Warhammer Universe. | nod
12/1/2022 22:19 | M_E_X , I hope you didnt panic and sell any shares. Use these predictable volatile days to add. The story here has not changed. Customers are passionate about our products and our market continues to expand. Some of our new ventures look very exciting. | nod
12/1/2022 16:25 | There seems to be a lot of 'noise' about GAW recently, none of which I might add has had any material impact on the company. Half year accounts showed increased freight costs had a negligible impact, apparent rebelling/striking/u | liquidtyler
12/1/2022 15:44 | I think yesterday was your dip | kennewil
12/1/2022 15:33 | Noticed FDEV profit warning RNS mentioned delays in release of Warhammer game. I am not a holder here but have been in the past and have an order to buy if significant dip. Any views if this has any material impact for GAs, or was it likely to be a small income stream, hence delay not significant. B | battyliveson
12/1/2022 09:28 | Nod, yes indeed he is! I am a hobbyist first and an investor second, and as much as I love Warhammer Plus (i am a Day 1 subscriber), I think GAW need to go BIG with Eisenhorn. Try to tap into that Witcher market but with sci-fi. Not only would I love to see it on screen, as a massive fan of the Eisenhorn/Ravenor/Be I also hope Dan Abnett is heavily involved in the process. He is the brains behind Guardians of the Galaxy's resurrection from 60s obscurity and eventual on-screen success. | bisho4

12/1/2022 08:16 | From the FDEV interims announcement today: "In the remaining five months of the current financial year (to 31 May 2022) we look forward to delivering two new games from Frontier Foundry, FAR: Changing Tides (now confirmed for release on 1 March 2022) and Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters" "Our Warhammer Age of Sigmar IP real-time strategy game planned for release during calendar 2023 will now release later in that calendar year, falling in FY24. This change will further improve the quality and longevity of the game, and overall make it more successful." | harris tweed
12/1/2022 07:49 | From The Times 'The group has suffered a backlash from some fans over its more aggressive approach to enforcing intellectual property rights. Alex Chatterton, an analyst at Panmure, suggested the creation of a “community outreach team” was an attempt to deal with that. The analyst said the group was starting to see shipping costs flatten out and that the supply chain issue did not affect the long-term investment case. He said he was keeping his target price on the stock of £142. He said the outlook was positive.' | alphabeta4
12/1/2022 04:54 | Entertainment In terms of media and entertainment, progress continues and we are delighted to have signed up a major LA based agency to help us. Eisenhorn is in development and the subject of discussions with potential distribution partners. We have made some solid progress in our writers room and have a number of further exciting live action and animated projects in development. We remain ambitious and patient. | nod
11/1/2022 21:08 | Henry Cavill on Warhammer hTTps://youtu.be/sN2 | nod
11/1/2022 21:00 | Henry Cavill is a huge fan of Warhammar. He has said that he would love to play Eisenhorn. | nod
11/1/2022 20:39 | looks like a 31k share purchase at 16.35; not mine tho! | janeann
11/1/2022 20:19 | Very unusual price action today. Orchestrated or just clumsy working of a large sell order? I didn't see anything in the results that wasn't already covered by the recent TU. We know that GAW don't do investor presentations or meetings so it's not like something has come out later. Possibly it was just a US ii rotating out of "growth" into "value" on the basis that value does better than growth when interest rates are rising. Personally, if interest rates are rising because inflation is rising i'd rather be invested in a company like GAW with strong pricing power and a high return on capital. magpies, i suspect the market is divided at to whether FY21 was a blip due to Covid and never to be repeated or whether Covid simply brought some/all of FY22 growth forward and headline growth will then return in FY23. I hold for the IP mainly but i fall into the latter camp fwiw. | makw61
11/1/2022 17:56 | mex yes, it might. or, may not bounce, significantly, imo, until next support around £54 If it goes south through that, next stop c.£45 it seems. air seems to be leaking out of this balloon. fwiw, there is a 'gap' between 450p & 470p (2012), although it would probably, imo, take some homungous thing to cause that collapse! (we all know what happens, right at the end, when the last of the air leaves the balloon) why has this fallen already from £123 to £85 (i.e. £38)? something's amiss! no? | 2magpies
11/1/2022 17:28 | Ouch - well that was a chastening day!! I have had stop losses set at £85 and £80 (set during the drop from £125 to £100 over the last few months), which came perilously close to triggering today - I think it got down to £85.05 at its lowest!! Here's hoping it rebounds tomorrow. | m_e_x
11/1/2022 17:19 | One thing that really stuck out to me from the Report was the live-action Eisenhorn TV series is still going ahead. This will give the IP another huge boost, but imagine if they got Henry Cavill to play Gregor Eisenhorn! | bisho4
11/1/2022 17:00 | As GAW was my largest holding (c10% of portfolio), I'd pencilled in to top-slice in my 2022 to-do list. Instead, I've decided that today's fall is overdone, and bought a few more, when it dropped to 85xx ! Hopefully I can (soon) unload these at 9500-10000. Good luck all holders, and anyone else that's also used this as a top-up opportunity. | dsct |
