I know mike Ashley is seen in a different light by many people but you don't become a billionaire if you're not a little bit clued up - Game must be his most undervalued stock in his portfolio, he would be a bit mad to want to dispose of it after buying in so cheaply...imo

I wonder if Mike Ashley's failed DEB takeover now has implications for GAME.On the one hand he now has £150m not going to be tied up in DEB, that could be used to acquire GAME. On the other hand, DEB floor space would have been ideal for Belong rollout. Ashley might also be forced to abandon his retail empire strategy and have to dump his near 30% stake in GAME.

Interesting Jak thanks for that - I had surmised that it might be even lower than that - where did you source that number?

Cash and cash equivalents £95.5m, nearly 2x the £50m mcap.

He'll have to bid much higher than the current price.

6 month adjusted EPS 9.8pI think anything below 50p would be a steal for Ashley

I think there is a good chance Ashley will make a bid for Game Digital, long term he will more than likely move game stores into Debenhams or Sports direct

"Meanwhile, Game Digital has announced that Sports Direct has increased its stake in the company to 29.89%, just short of the 30% threshold at which it would have to make an takeover offer for the company.

When he appeared before MPs investigating the future of the High Street last year, Mr Ashley talked about how companies like Game could put e-gaming stations into redundant areas of big department stores to bring people back into shopping areas."

I still remember when Game went bust- wiped out their shareholders and refloated a few weeks later.

I can't see it would bother him too much (he does seem to love publicity) and judging by the fact he is mulling a 5p bid at DEB for a company he has as good as guaranteed would be put in to a CVA you can certainly see a wedge of upside for GAME should he come calling

Good volume today. Read across from the SPD DEB speculation? My take is that SPD wouldn't want to be too stretched and do two acquisitions at the same time.

Bought £20k here this morning.

Balance sheet looks strong, with a big cash pile.

Sports direct on 30%, easy read across to DEB and FOOT

I think it must have been missed by the market - volume hasn't really been there to say any different.

I am perplexed and, judging by the share price response, so is the market.

What are Ashley's motives. Either he's going to make a bid in which case why didn't the share price rise last week and today? Or is he going to use his shareholding to engineer a boardroom reshuffle?

We shall see.

Ever nearer the compulsory bid level - not sure what sort of price GAME would entertain a bid at though

GAME should start a share buyback with its cash pile. Or distribute via special divs.I don't know why Mike Ashley doesn't turn activist like he does with Debenhams, and demand a shakeup of the status quo here. Would cause the share price to rocket.
