54p per share of cash (according to Edison research today) suggests this has got plenty of upside.

The rent reductions and avg lease of less than a year now will be the profit driver for the group in the next year or two, not headline revenue or gross margins.Even if same store LFL sales drop 10%, because of the huge rent reductions (and ability to close half the underperforming stores) will mean that EBITDA and therefore cash flow generation will continue to grow YoY.However, without a long term catalyst (verdict is still out on Belong) at some point there will be no more rent reductions possible and the core retail business is in terminal decline. The huge cash pile (currently at seasonal high post Christmas) is comforting.Easily worth 35-40p IMHO at the moment, but I struggle to see any catalyst beyond that. Except maybe a Mike Ashley bid, but he is a value hunter.

Market cap is 45 million he wouldn't even have to pay more than 80-90 million at best case scenario (plucked from thin air) and he is a billionaire so I couldn't see the Spanish business raising any amount of money that would be classed as better than pocket money to him.Worse case for shareholders is that he goes above thirty percent on the cheap and gets a low takeover bid in.

I wonder if Mike Ashley took this over, he'd be tempted to sell the Spanish part of the business to help fund his other UK ventures

Last time he bought at 20p it shot up to 40p then a month or so later 60p

I think the rules are that if he goes above 30% he has to make a bid at the highest price paid in the previous 12 monthsCould see a spike if people think he is looking to bid in the hope of pushing his highest price paid up.Can't see the point in adding to his stake if he is not looking to bid.

It's on the BBC newsfeed. 28.43% is getting close to having to make a bid. Very happy I topped up on Monday when I saw these volumes going through. Looking forward to seeing what happens...

Interesting indeed supercity. I was very surprised to see this, given he already owned 25% of Game as well as 50% of the Belong concept. I wonder what motivated him to buy more now? We shall see...

Nearly 5% of the company traded today so far. It'll be interesting to see who's been picking these up. Only a couple of weeks to go to the interims...

Apparently Mike Ashley tried to buy HMV - wouldn't be surprised if (as a way of saying up yours) he considered buying these out and pumping the GAME shops full of the stuff HMV sell, along side their gaming stuff

Had a quick look at customer reviews which were not too bad before Christmas (though by no means good) - and they seem to have gotten significantly worse recently. Just sold out - if their unable to efficiently deliver internet orders they are completely screwed:

I think you only have to look at Debenhams (& maybe even the BELONG tie up here) to see that Mike Ashley's objectives may not be aligned with those of other shareholders.

If Ashley were to choose to acquire this to merge with HMV it would be at the price of his choosing not yours!

I'm not suggesting it is a massive negative, but imho his presence here is NOT a positive.

No position here at the moment.

Sports Direct also owns a stake in Game Digital, which Mr Ashley could merge with HMV if he is successful, Sky News said.

Stockopedia says it all--- value 90, quality 90. So they seem to be very undervalued. Going long tomorrow. great share to trade.
I do prefer plus500 and GMD a lot more though.

V good point about inventory, although this figure is from the November results so this may reflect inventory building prior to Christmas. Looking online and popping into my local game store I didn't see them heavily discounting (potential benefit of having the large high-street market share).

With cash increasing from 56m to 96m across the period I would suspect a 50% discount is a little high on inventory, but who knows until the figures are released. However, at a more liberal 25% discount I still make it a 0.71 ptb which isn't bad. Agree it is loss making as it has been hit by reduction in pre-owned, but with cost-savings and a good late 2019-2020 on the horizon, I would expect them to be very strong years. After that - who knows! I doubt I'll be holding...

I notice the Church House Deep Value fund has been building a stake here.

Personally I do not consider this a worthy deep value investment.

This company trades at around half tangible book value. However it holds £78m in inventory. If you mark that down by 50% the discount disappears.

The company loses money and does not pay a dividend.

Surely this is more of a punt than an investment.
