I think there are likely to be other failures in the retail space but GMD just has so much cash and reserves it will be ok. Worst case they just close 80% of the uk stores in the next few months, trade as ecom and return cash to shareholders. Ultimately why do this when they are generating decent ebitda and the yoy cash position is improving. Crazy valuation.

A good buy again at this price. Related to Toys R Us etc I think

Remember this business has 50p per share of cash on hand and £0.25bn of cash available if you include the facilities. I'm not quite sure why they don't just close stores then do a monster buy back with surplus cash leaving a smaller lease estate with belong and a profitable ecom business.

Surely 35p should give support given elliot are now out of the picture.

Inflaton falls to 2.4% the lowest in a year. Wage rises outpacing inflation so should be good for retail.

I just stopped in on the wardour st store and belong has 100% utilisation at present.

60p will come soon, this is a great entry point.

The belong roll-out will also reduce the space and fixed costs for retail as the sites get converted over time. Also they are open later until 9pm giving more opportunity to pick up retail sales.

The belong utilisation % seems to be growing pretty fast the fast: Q4 FY17 21.3%, first 23 weeks for FY19 28.2%, H1 FY19 28.5%. This implies 30.8% for the last 3 weeks of the first half. I think for every 1% utilisation increase above 28.5% equates to c3.5% pay to play sales growth if the price p/h is fixed.

For the belong roll out the key sentence for me comes 29min30sec into the latest webcast: "We are seeing a strong retail performance whereever a belong is sited, belong drives the whole store revenue and margin" and they only have 20 sites at the moment.

Is that a matter of public record? Or private for that matter. Or guesswork..

They didn’t like SPD tie up. They knew they wouldn’t get what they wanted now. GMD used the SPD tie up to get rid

It could be that Elliot exiting at 35p anchors the price given their current knowledge of the business and its risks and they felt there are better investments out there for the money.

Based on the last couple of presentations the UK stores annual rent and rates bill was c.£31m of which c£16.7m was rent. To me the rates element seems to be far too high and I would hope there are lots of rateable value challenges pending as well as the rent reductions.

Hopefully we get back over 60p in the short term now that elliot are done selling. Exiting their 43% stake in short order gave some great entry prices.

I see Elliot have taken a stealth position in Whitbread last week - Sunday Times comments that they are activists and will want Costa spun out. I think their pulling out of GMD will help the share price and the strategy

I hope next week will be decent too. Not much being made of game.co.uk and game.es which I think have massive value. Also Spain overall looking pretty strong based on the last set of results.
