Hi Adam, Yeah i do feel that 63%/62% is too low. There is a major licensed IP in FY22 and then Warhammer in FY23 plus the F1 stuff both years i think. But, if i start from an assumption that royalties are typically 10% for licensed IP - for those gross margins to be to be correct would imply that most sales are of licensed IP and that most sales are going through eg Steam and that Frontier are paying top rate of 30% rather than one of the lower tiers. Those assumptions don't seem very realistic to me. So, somewhere around 65% for the (high) sales of licensed IP and 70% for (lower) sales of own IP with the blended average depending on the sales mix but closer to 65% than 70%. That assumes 10% is realistic. Am very tempted to buy some back here, just being greedy and waiting for a lower price tbh. Been an amazing journey for us all here. Like you i've sold too many (my original holding would be worth 7 figures now) but i do value peace of mind and just grateful to DB for the value he has created. ATB

Hi Mak Agreed on the royalties point. There's a lot of detailed knowledge of the company on here so I guess my question (if I put it more accurately) is: based on knowledge of the release cycle, do those who know the company well believe that that GM contraction to low 60s is likely? I still hae some of min from 330p in-price though like you have sold lots on the way up. Sold far too many. I bought a few more back recently, and contemplating adding some more if we get down to around £22. Adam

Hi Adam, Think the margin changes are probably driven by royalties payable. Gross margin was 61% in FY19 which included the JWE release. Offsetting that would be lower platform charges so maybe 65% would be my best guess. Not sure how the third party publishing will be accounted for - if revenue then should increase gross margin. But possibly they will show as a one-liner, royalties receivable, like Games Workshop, in which case won't affect gross margin. Still a LTH here from ave. of around £1.75(!) but sold some at £8, £13, £25 and £32 for peace of mind. Well done DB and the team. I've got yank filtered, but he tends to be a very bullish indicator so thinking of buying some back now.

Predictions? Me? The only FDEV prediction I recall was after the Directors sold a tons of shares just before the release of an Elite Dangerous expansion which they were claiming would be huge. I predicted it would be a huge disaster. And it was. And now Directors are selling tons of shares just before the release of the next Elite Dangerous expansion which they are claiming will be huge. This latest one is supposed to earn an incredible £30m in this FY. And it's already burned most of the FY by missing its Christmas release date by a mile. We'll see.

Does anyone have a view on gross margin evolution for FDEV? I was looking at my figures and why there were a bit more aggressive that market figures. Consensus forecasts has FY20's 68% going to 67% this year, then 63% in FY22 and 62% in FY23. H1 this year was 71%. Does anyone have a view? Many thanks

Yank I'm always open to both sides of a debate on things, however from a quick scan on your posts over the last couple years, you only seem to post on this board and only seem to ever post negativity. Meanwhile, FDEV has continued to deliver both operationally, financially and in terms of the share price. Forgive me, however your track record therefore suggests that you're not great at predicting the future for FDEV. I'm therefore going to put you on filter. All the best Adam

p1nkfish. Certainly an element of an out of favour sector- TM17 & SUMO have all sold off since early/mid feb- but the decline in FDEV appears to have started a few weeks before then, just after the trading statement. With respect to charts, SUMO has yet to reach the 200dma trendline and TM17 did but bounced off it. FDEV however is now below that trend line and worryingly it then acted as resistance during the brief rally last Monday. Not an expert at all and hoping that bamboo2 will add further comment as I believe he is following this stock.

Hope I'm wrong but I dont expect a quick bounce back on this at all and it might set-up a further fall when it funded bounce a little. Any chartists care to comment?

Seeing all these FDEV directors selling out makes me wonder, does anyone know an accurate source of when any FDEV director last bought any FDEV shares? The last director buy news I recall was back in 2018, but I know lots of the Director Deals websites can't be trusted because they're listing false info. At that time FDEV and its broker Libereum both falsely claimed Chinese Tecent's CFO Mitchell had bought shares. So reliable info seems rather hard to find.

Elite Dangerous Odyssey www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/lxnzp4/elite_dangerous_odyssey_the_road_to_odyssey/ Oh dear. Gamers stopped buying stuff like that a decade or two ago. Seems FDEV didn't get the memo. It is painful to think FDEV has spent 100 developers and 3 years producing this. Three weeks before release and all they've got to show is a mind-numbingly basic on-foot shooter just like hundreds of others littering the Steam graveyard. What on earth was FDEV's broker smoking when he predicted this would earn £30m in this financial year??

I agree great long term value am still holding most of mine. I am hopeless at picking peaks and troughs so have given up trying! My current target £50-60. Not worried about Ex COO selling as it was consistent with his previous sells & needing cash. Have been keeping eye on Odyssey, looking good but some work to do before release, looking forward to trying Alpha on 29th March.

Any of the regulars on here buying more FDEV given the recent fall? I'm sorely tempted given that I think they represent very good value. The director sales are causing me to think twice though. The two Exec dir sales I'm more comfortable with given they each still have c.£500k of sales, but the NED is now down to 0. He's the ex COO who left 2-3 yeras ago to move to a start-up. I guess you could argue that he might be wanting to put the cash into that company, but still, not ideal to see

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Alpha to be released this month. A dozen stories on Gaming websites have been published in the 90 minutes since this news was released. This is big news for FDEV as ED has sold 5 million+ copies and this should hopefully have a positive effect on the recently battered share price. Highly anticipated Elite Dangerous: Odyssey expansion will have Alpha later this month on March 29, 2021, the development team Frontier confirmed. To celebrate the reveal of the Alpha start date, the team have shared a new gameplay video showing an Odyssey mission playthrough, which features gameplay captured from a raid. hTTps://wccftech.com/elite-dangerous-odyssey-pc-alpha-launch-date-gameplay-footage/

Looked at the chart to find a likely turn date. The next one is 8-9/3/2021 Not sure of direction, if any, [!] until nearer the time. Caution, I don't pick up all the turns, and obvs some don't materialise. No position. Gla

I'm just buying the odd few shares on my Freetrade accountant which doesn't charge any fees on some stocks, as the price continues to slide. In my ISA I've only got half my profits left invested. Personally I see this pull back as an opportunity to get more out of a great British company that is operating in a gaming market which is only going to grow. If it goes down another 500p will start to buy much bigger chunks

I was a long term holder, sold out at £24.45 on the way up. Watching for now, would like to buy back in at some point but don't know at which point. :-)

Agreed Sogoesit. I've been holding these for 4-5 years now. Sold too many on the way up unfortunately. If we do drop back into the mid 20s then I'll be buying more as I thin it would then offer 100% upside potential on a 2-3 year basis

Agreed, more or less. I see support at 2775 which coincides with the base of the uptrend channel as scooper notes. However, if that fails we could be looking at 2300 going on 2135. This is quite a volatile stock and has a habit of the market losing interest or selling off when (significant) releases don't turn up as regularly as expected or wanted. We still haven't got over the one year release/new-income gap and until that happens the volatility will continue. Not helped by the uncertainty of the new Odyssey release due to management of COVID. LT Hold for me. AIMV

It's true on the chart if u draw a line along the dips it does seem to be reaching that point where it is either going to bounce above it or go through that straight line. Not sure that's how a chartist would describe it but the best I can do.

Thanks. I've started buying individual Frontier Dev. shares on a daily basis as a way of drip feeding into the stock further with my Freetrade ap as they don't charge any fees and the buy price is same as HL platform. Noticed that one subscription I have - Motley Fool Hidden Winners has had them as a Best Buy out of their range of stocks to buy recently.
