JWE looks quality - will have quite a following much bigger than PC imo (and I have a gaming background from the original elite also ED from kickstarter days)

the gaming market has matured and fragmented over the years - from a few very big games to lots of smaller good ones. As tech has advanced and games are more freely available a well written game with a waiting market has a certain shelf life. So a game a year isnt a bad idea as long as not to many duds.

Not sure what the other investment opportunities are in this market but too big a company throwing too many darts at the dartboard may waste money. These guys are bringing games out that succeed - not too many all at a time.

Please note elite was one of the most iconic games in the early development of PC's and the guy responsible started this off on the back of that, improved yes, but the same guy with the same concept just a very improved game appealing to a new market/tech.

If the games are not good people simply wont play them. If they continue to be good then we could have multiple revenue streams on a yearly basis. I brought back in the 300 days so sitting pretty atm.

They seem to be trying to position themselves at AAA developers 10-80x the market cap.

Multiplayer then. AAA implies huge budget £10-£50 million sort of area, so they seem confident they'll soon have this money available to spend.

text from the job description below. Game 4 was already in development in Feb with game 5 at the planning stage - I would think the below is relevant to game 5. Its also worth noting not every game will be IP which we'll have necessarily all heard of - they made that clear too. There will be a good mix was the plan. Im not sure where you get the Indiana jones thing from?

Frontier is looking for a Principal Animation Systems Programmer to take a leading role in the development of an upcoming AAA title. You will work with programmers, animators and technical artists to take our in-house animation technology to a new level, and help us to stay at the forefront of visual quality in games. This is a very high profile franchise, which enjoys a global fanbase, and you can expect to be involved from the ground up in making a title that everyone will be talking about when the time comes. You will need to bring both player and non-player characters to life in a large and varied environment, and to do this you will have the exciting remit to explore a range of technologies, including current and next generation systems for procedural and physically driven animation, and leverage those that are most appropriate.

It makes sense to mention the next title when they have maximum interest, so that it gets a good early start in awareness. I was guessing they'd do it a few weeks after the JWE release.

They are starting to monetise ED better, which is their strongest brand by a long way still in terms of engagement (eg google searches). I heard in the live stream just ended they are rewarding the twice a week CGs (community goals) with small discounts for DLCs rather than free things, so you pay for your own prizes :) No doubt there will be DLCs for JWE as well in the months to come, many gamers will be paying a lot more than £45-50.

Speculation is that it will be Indiana Jones. But the point is that in a couple of years we will have 4 or 5 global franchises, with a new one being added yearly and content for all being updated all the time. And a great entry point for the vast Chinese market as well.

Hi Mark, thats right, big buying demand, there has been a large line of stock for sale from Liberium, yesterday and today at 15.65. If they don't reload that almost seems exhausted so you could be right. Healthy volumes whatever which is nice to see as liquidity has always been something i was keen to see improve.

Hi Sogoesit, always nice to welcome some heavy hitters on board ; ). This is now 40% of my portfolio. So its unlikely I'll be able to hold everything for that long! (meaning 8-10 years...but maybe I should!)

Welcome Sogoesit. Nice to have you aboard!

Most movie spin off games are rubbish - an after thought to bring in some cash. I'm confident JWE is very, very different. It's FDEV building their own game using the license rather than the licensee farming out a game to a developer.

I’m here on your recommendation nimbo so thanks for that. Seeded it awhile back and bought again on the breakout.
Your long term maybe too long for me (I’m on the longer end of the age range ;-) ) but take your point that it’s a keeper.

Anyway, the big returns come with patience for successful growth stocks so “hanging in there” must be the name of the game... meanwhile bamboo trades on our fears and exuberances ;-)!

There have been many films that have spawned disappointing games, JWE really puts FDEV in the shop window. I wonder if they have some sort of deal with Universal generally: if so, that is a big pipeline to tap into

The picture of FDEV's future DB painted at the meeting back in feb was for 1 game release a year from now on, getting to something like 8-10 games which have multi year lifecycles and are supported by DLC etc. Looking that far out seems crazy but investors could probably do a lot worse than just hold onto these for the long term. A great JWE game and high decent sales are an important part of this of course and could be the launch pad for a step up in market cap, revenue and profit... the long term vision for investors that hang on could generate superb returns, imo only.
