Half Year Results tomorrow. I have bought a reasonable amount today which may have helped! I am in this more more for the benefit of longer term divestment of Retail Stores, and forsee a much healthier business when the highly profitable Wholesale and Licencing businesses are an increasingly higher proportion of the total as Retail space reduces. Given the strong current trading announced by Dunelm and Next last week, which highlighted the benefit of more Autumnal Weather compared to last year, we may get a similarly bullish statement from French Connection, for the same reasons.

I wonder if Stephen Marks is Mike Ashley's new Chris Ronnie?

i guess it could be... not sure Ashers leaves anyone alive from the old management though when he takes over... Marks would be pensioned off immediately I think. gawd help us...

Marks has overseen the destruction and I would suggest that snuggling up to MA could see the brand hit larger markets once again, leaving him to walk out with his pride intact and a nice pension to boot.

hmmm that's a gloomy outlook. could happen, though it depends on Marks deciding whether he wants his lifetime's work ignominiously destroyed. Surely he must have SOME personal pride... let's hope so.

Mike needs friends,he cannot run everything as a one man band, FCCN is not an international brand of quality like Dunlop Slazenger etc.but would be useful to use in some of his other stores on terms he dictates, with the bulk of profits from these ventures going to a company of MA`s choice not to FCCN imo.

The stock here can sink on continued lack of profits, as long as it keeps its head above water - after say a couple of years MA might just offer to pick up the balance of stock for a pittance, having done pretty well from a supplier arrangement throughout, and having been worth more than his current investment in FCCN. Just a though!!!

FWIW from wiki:
Ashley has made his money by buying brands. The first major brand he bought was Donnay. In February 2003, Ashley bought the Dunlop Slazenger brand for £40 million, followed up by acquiring outdoor gear manufacturer Karrimor in March 2003,[11] Kangol for £10 million,[12] boxing brand Lonsdale, most of these brands were bought from distressed sellers. After considering a takeover,[13] Ashley took a £9 million stake and signed a long-term deal with Umbro.[14]

i can't see how that benefits Ashers myself... do you mean he just wants just an increase in SP?

Why bother to make a bid, better to keep Marks on side and doing the deal MA wants, as long as SPD makes money out the deal it is not important that FCCN stakeholders see the company profit, as long as Marks gets to stay in Power and draw his dues. Win for both of them in that case.

The Putin of the retail world has massively increased his stake. Wonder if Marks is going to join him in screwing the rest of us over?

If he does I'll then understand why the models on the French Connection website look like they need Prozac

hmmm brands are hard to buy at this level and whatever FCCN have done to damage their brand over recent years it still remains quite an iconic one. always seemed very undervalued to me with a NAV at 50p or so.
