Bespoke products had another dreadful year - it must be the only precast business in the UK losing money at the moment.
76m turnover and a 100k loss

Rose on the expectations after Ibstock results yesterday. Good results, but not a lot better than expected and holding up on a market down day.

Rerating will come when investors realise that margins were hit last year even though volume was good, and when new and more efficient production kicks in. Demand is surely going to remain robust for years yet with the housing shortage...

Love that we are going to generate most of our own electricity from Forterra solar panels!! I wonder what the storage solution looks like, though.

MK, agree with your post. Full stop.

Though at my age a 10 year view is a bit of a stretch. I've been investing since the 80's, always for the longer term, at my stage of the game safety is key. When the stock market goes south (as it will, possibly in the coming weeks/months...), Forterra will suffer.

I've been here so many times, the key is getting out at the right time.

Regards and go well, if you're able to.

I've had a few fwiw - probably not much! - had been monitoring for sometime.

Will look to add on any hit from a worsening of Ukraine.

damanko - the key for me is you have to take a 10 year view (they have 30 years of clay reserves IIRC). there will be ups and downs but they have a strong market position and limited competition, therefore they will sell a huge amount of bricks in the coming decades (anything up to a 2 million house deficit in the UK). plus of course steady demand from repairs, extensions and maintenance. i like that they have been investing to automate and keep costs down. the very significant share buyback is a huge vote of confidence in the business IMO.

MK, I said it 6 years ago, and now you've said pretty much the same too...

I sold half my holding 2 years ago when it got up to £3.35, if it reaches that price once again the other half will go.

Then, when the next LSE downturn arrives (inevitable, of course...), and Forterra gets hammered like the rest of the market, I'll simply buy again, at a bargain price.

Because fundamentals don't really change, certainly not in the housing market.

What changes is the idiotic market movers in the LSE stroke City of London.

Simples...

IMV this is the smart way to access investment returns from the housing market. no exposure to land values, no debt, and it has pricing power. very little risk of the product becoming obsolete. the industry is in a far better share for investors than it's been in many years. i say BUY

Its amazing to me that even with the buyback, the share price is down 7.5% over the past 5 days.

At least it means the buy back retires more of the share count and will be more powerful for remaining holders!

I held IBST with FORT some time ago but decided on FORT only as I wanted to diversify a little more but may revisit IBST. I can't see why FORT would be much different to IBST results wise. Are their balance sheets comparable? Particularly levels of debt (should there be any) However I accept debt isn't a problem as long as it's being serviced without stress.

Excellent update indeed. How many times does Forterra management have to repeat themselves for the market to get it??! Still, repeating the bull points regularly is part of the job spec, I suppose!

I have been quietly adding to my position (up by 33%) after the good Ibstock update and the expected good news today. The news today is a little better than I expected, but it really looked as if the Mr. Market had had one of his turns, selling off a growing brickmaker with super "moat" characteristics in a housing boom. Because (presumably) of some fairly irrelevant stuff going on overseas.

£3.60 before COVID. Why not again?

By the way, IBST is in the same position, but after going up on a good update has dropped back down. Looks like another bargain (I hold there too). These are the two biggest of the three main brick producers in the UK (the other is foreign listed Wienerberger), and have excellent clay resources. Hard to see much external competition appearing, with importation having a significant transport overhead.

Excellent results! Must be the quietest board on ADVFN... which is no bad thing when you consider some of the lunatics that populate other boards.
