Flow customers are now 50% greener as standard. Plus we've just launched our first 100% renewable electricity deal.

I particularly like the fact the the new non executive directors have taken a 50% reduction in fees. Shows they are fully behind Flows strategy of reducing costs.

Hopefully get some news on green energy tariff soon, also notice that OVO are only 33% renewables whilst flow will be 50% minimum.

Sharia May’s pledge to cap energy bills hits utility shares

YESTERDAY by Nathalie Thomas in London, Jim Pickard in Manchester
Shares in Britain’s biggest energy supplier fell to a 14-year low after Theresa May pledged to introduce legislation to end “rip-off energy prices once and for all”.

The stock of Centrica, owner of British Gas, dropped to its lowest level since 2003 at one stage on Wednesday after the prime minister renewed her promise to cap the most common type of energy deal.

About 15m of the 27m households in Britain are on standard variable tariffs, which are more expensive than fixed-price deals, and leave customers vulnerable to unexpected increases in their gas and electricity bills.

Mrs May’s announcement at the Conservative party conference follows a promise made before the June general election to reduce bills for customers on standard variable tariffs by £100 a year.

After the election, however, Ofgem, the energy regulator, said it would consult on more limited price protections for only 2.2m “vulnerable” customers.

A row between the government and Ofgem broke out over the summer over who should be responsible for delivering Mrs May’s pre-election promise.

Greg Clark, the business secretary, said last week that Ofgem already had powers to act but the regulator argued that if it acted without legislation there would be a “substantive appeal route” for utility companies.

The government is planning to publish a draft bill next week that, if enacted, would enable Ofgem to impose a sweeping price cap that would not be subject to appeal.

“Ofgem are expected to come out with their plans for how they will safeguard customers on the poorest value tariffs,” said a Conservative briefing paper. “If their plans do not go far enough, this power will enable them to go further.”

The cap was intended to be “temporary”, while other measures to improve the energy market bedded down.

Ofgem said it would “work with the government on their plans . . . to better protect consumers on poor value deals”.

SSE, one of the six largest energy companies in the UK, said any cap should be “time-limited” and “maintain the principles of a competitive energy market to best serve customers’ interests”.

Shares in SSE closed down 3 per cent at £13.67. Centrica’s stock closed down 6 per cent at 179.3p.

ScottishPower, another big six energy supplier, which is owned by Spain’s Iberdrola, said a price cap would “not encourage more customers to participate in the energy market”.

It believes all customers should be moved on to fixed-price tariffs that have to be renewed in the same way as car or home insurance.

Large utilities argue a cap would discourage households from shopping around for better deals and would cut consumer choice as most suppliers would price their products at, or around, the cap set.

Shares in utilities have been under pressure since the 2016 Conservative conference, when Mrs May signalled she had these companies in her sights.

News of the draft bill was welcomed by consumer groups and smaller energy suppliers that hope to take business from the big six.

Gillian Guy, chief executive of Citizens Advice, said: “The prime minister’s announcement of a cap on energy bills could provide a solution to the runaway energy costs that the millions of people on default tariffs have faced for years.”
