14/8/2008 10:02 | First Quantum, Kinross Gold May Advance; ING Canada May Fall By John Kipphoff Aug. 13 (Bloomberg) -- First Quantum Minerals Ltd. may advance, based on bids on the Toronto Stock Exchange, after it reported better-than-estimate Kinross Gold Corp. may be among bullion mining shares that climb today, as its profit matched forecasts and the price of the precious metal rebounded. ING Canada Inc. may decline after the insurance company reported earnings that fell more than analysts estimated. The Standard & Poor's/TSX Composite Index dropped 0.3 percent to 13,167 yesterday in Toronto as industrial and financial companies declined. Canada's benchmark, which derives more than two-fifths of its value from raw-materials and energy shares, has fallen 13 percent from its June peak after energy and commodity prices retreated from records on concern tighter credit and slowing growth will hurt demand. First Quantum may advance 65 cents to C$57.75, bids already submitted in Toronto indicated. The miner of copper in Africa said second-quarter profit rose 69 percent to $208 million because of higher output and prices. Per-share profit of $3.02 exceeded the $2.96 average of analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg. | enewman36

01/7/2008 09:13 | Looks like the bottom to me should get a steady run up during the quiet season with low volume Just my thoughts Jakes | jakes114
16/6/2008 21:48 | No one knows the bottom. I think the drop could be related to windfall tax or higher royalties in Zambia. For the time being, the major copper production is in Zambia. Hope the tax situation can be clear in the near futuer so that FQM can be valued easily. Cost (energy, wage) inflation could also be a problem for FQM. XTA, RIO, AAL or BLT all have significant thermal coal production which has price infloation of 100%. FQM has to bear the cost of fuel. I am not sure about the electricity supply. If it is a issue, then it could be a very big problem. | eastwind
