Apologies for the link to the wail FIF is the maker of most, if not all, of the 'shop bought' cakes on test here AIUI www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-4733332/Can-shop-bought-Mary-Berry-cake-match-one-home.html

Pre close TS tells of a(nother) solid performance in the face of a tough market The effort that will have gone into delivering that 0.1% H2 growth in UK bakery would be easy to underestimate - they will have thrown everything they sensibly could at getting that. My main hope is that FIF is doing better in these tough times than its competitors and that it is strengthening its position as a consolidator when the opportunity arises.

New NED appoointed. Don't know the guy. Sure he was chosen carefully. I like the statement positioning the appointment: "he led a series of earnings accretive acquisitions" "supporting and advising growth companies" Further setting out FIF's stall as being on the acquisition trail imo Let's see

Yes I thought the performance was quit impressive given the headwinds. On the downside I'd say those will prevail for a while longer and send the share price further into bargain territory. I was surprised that the recent strenght in the £ has not halted the trend since the narrative is favourable in that instance but I think sentiment is the key here for a moment.

Interims out today show continued good progress in a pretty tough market imo Flat revenue, profits up a touch Continued investment in manufacturing, employees and innovation Won the Mary Berry cakes licence I'm happy enough And wondering what, if any, the next acquisition type activity will be

Same here, they seem to be a great company. I cant wait until they release the end of year report. So far they have had steady growth each year.

I've seen some news saying FIF shares are projected to go up. I checked on the dividends and they are really good at the moment.

yes, the pre-close reiterated the last update, that inflationary times are forecast and it is hard to fully pass on those cost increases to customers, hence some pressure on profits we can take solace in the fact that FIF is now in much better shape than previously and that the management team is working proactively and ahead of time rather than trying to deal with such things reactively

I suspect a combination of sector malaise (reaction to the poor update from Premier Foods which highlighted the adverse impact of increased commodities prices and downgraded profit forecasts) and the underlying message in the FIF pre-close statement that making a decent profit is hard work and will require material ongoing investment - although we already knew that.
