01/8/2017 08:25 | I think a blue finish is on the cards - shake out some weak traders who had moved in for a quick gain and disappointed holders. Long term picture is positive and will attract buyers as the day/week progresses. I think the figures are actually very good: Sales Revenue GBP35.4m GBP13.6m Adjusted operating profit/(loss)* GBP1.8m (GBP6.8m) Operating profit/(loss) GBP1.7m (GBP7.0m) That's a turnaround - back in profit. And then there's this: -- Strong demand for filter products to mobile telecommunications infrastructure and public safety communications markets in the year expected to continue into FY2018. -- Investment in the sales and marketing teams across EMEA and the US resulting in a growing opportunity pipeline. | tini5
01/8/2017 08:21 | Initial response from investors I guess slightly disappointed at their cautionary comments? EPS was better than I had anticipated. I also checked on last year's AGM statement and I think that they want to make sure they manage investors expectations?I look forward to reading some other investors take on the results. | pnetol
01/8/2017 07:52 | Presumably the American deal alluded to, angus, has something to do with 'exciting new customer engagements that include major Silicon Valley technology companies who are seeing the value of our mmWave technology capabilities' - which does sound very promising. | photon
31/7/2017 15:50 | results tomorrow will be as the market is expecting, they have already been briefed to a large extent. what we need is new info. on prospects. There was mention in the local paper about an AMERICAN deal which might get a specific line or two. Reading into the various statements will be more important than the numbers tomorrow. | angus17
31/7/2017 15:17 | Photon,Good post, I agree with your thought process and have back it up with my recent purchases so I am currently overweight, for me, in this stock. I think that the risk reward ratio has been getting better and I feel more comfortable now they also have cash in the bank.Fingers crossed for tomorrow. | pnetol
31/7/2017 14:38 | Yes in this case the overhang is due to a technical factor rather than a negative view on the stock.Whilst Aberforth's Smaller Companies Trust terms of ref say 'The Company's policy towards companies quoted on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) generally precludes investment, except where either an investee company moves from the "Main Market" to AIM (so as to avoid being a forced seller)', analyst comment on the trust has noted it 'tends to invest only in companies whose market cap exceeds GBP 50 million'. And they have managed their holding down steadily rather than dump it.Filtronic have been understandably cautious, given past events, in not trying to build expectations too high: the current management are balancing excitement over the current business performance and the future prospects with the need for credibility with investors. So I'm looking for good progress accompanied by a balanced, sober statement tomorrow.IIs will be looking for solid proof of the upswing before committing. PIs investing now are taking on some extra risk but the factors holding the share price down do seem to be receding. | photon
31/7/2017 14:24 | Yep. Overhangs can provide great opportunities. We'll see... | allstar4eva
31/7/2017 13:59 | Photon,I had not realised, until your post, that they were not allowed to hold AIM positions . We occasionally run into situations like this where the seller/ overhang has to reduce/ exit their position even though the fundamentals of a company are moving in a positive direction. These can be rare opportunities for private investors like us to pick up decent sized positions while this situation unwinds. GLTA holders | pnetol
31/7/2017 13:51 | I guess it shows the lack of demand for the share, but it's really good to see us at the latter end of the disposal point with good results due tomorrow. I was also quite excited by Rivaldos spot in the Northern Echo recently, commenting on the fact that the head count could easily rise over the next 12 months from 66 to 75. That's very positive IMO | pnetol
31/7/2017 13:13 | Yes I agree that's the most likely scenario. My 'protracted' comment was more driven by the slow drip drip to this point from their original holding of 41m shares or so :) | photon
31/7/2017 13:09 | Photon,I like your thought process, but I have a feeling that they will be below 3% very soon after the results and probably out of the stock not long after that. If results/statement are good then the volume should pick up, giving them their opportunity to exit. | pnetol
31/7/2017 12:58 | The contrarian in me likes to imagine the day when a successful, robust FTC might decide to return to the main market, thus rendering Aberforth's protracted exit at rock bottom prices from an AIM share they were no longer allowed to hold pointless. | photon
31/7/2017 12:26 | If I'm reading correctly then Aberforth have just announced a reduction in their shareholding from 7.56%-4.94%Positive for us shareholders as less to be absorbed by the market going forwards. Looking forward to reading tomorrows forward looking statement. I hope it's as positive as we are anticipating. I'm hoping that we see our first buys at 14p soonGLA | pnetol

28/7/2017 12:49 | Any whiff of a dividend will get the motoring. | pictureframe
28/7/2017 12:02 | Yep - a series of small-ish buys this morning, and the price reacting nicely. We know from the trading update that Tuesday's results and outlook will be good - and will show a nice £2.6m and growing cash pile. Let's see if we can get new recent highs at the least by Tuesday - or post-results. | rivaldo
28/7/2017 11:27 | On the move! Results next week. | techno20
26/7/2017 17:57 | Took the opportunity to top up today. | tini5
26/7/2017 17:49 | today's little shake didnt work | pictureframe
26/7/2017 08:01 | I wonder how long before we have an RNS about Aberforth's shareholding dropping below 3%. There have been a few late reported large trades. | pnetol
24/7/2017 21:31 | Prelims due on 1st August, expect to see a rise ahead of these. | techno20
24/7/2017 19:07 | 500k sell order finished filling today, that is what held the share price back in spite of all the buys. | dan de lion
24/7/2017 13:06 | Agreed , I feel this is the week we are going to test that 14p again. | pictureframe
24/7/2017 13:05 | The pressure is building! | karlm
20/7/2017 08:18 | Nice tick up at the close and positive turnaround yesterday - looks set to burst upwards at some point soon. | rivaldo |
