Hazelton Legg usually has a good run and is still undervalued so have been adding monthly to that one.

I too had wondered about Legg Mason u/t. Its about 40% in retail. I was surprised how different some of these Jap collectives were.

Knowing, you might like to consider the subscription shares of these; Also subs of JPS. May be worth buying but does require the share price to perform well(rise at the rate of about 10% pa).

Been slowly adding to my japan holdings as think there is some good mileage to be had. Legg Mason Jap has underperformed so far so may be adding there shortly.

Nice to see some interest again. I think everyone else has given up. I read an article about investors finally 'capitulating' regarding Japanese Smaller companies, which would be a good contrarian buy signal - it's got to change sometime! I think the new government has better ideas which will help.

Japanese markets have moved up strongly over the last month: up 17%+, easily beating all other world-indices. FJV has lot of catching up to do.

Is this the turning point for Japanese equities? Nikkei/Topix were the World's best index performers today.

Markets have moved up strongly today. The NAV here should track it. Strange that the share price has not reacted.

The upcoming election just might act as a catalyst to send the market higher - even if just because a new government might do something different. I live in hope...

Let's hope that when the sellers have finished dumping them, a few buyers will push them up a bit. Ridiculous discount.

Energyii - Interesting that you should open a new thread; would be pleased to read your take on investing into these at this time.

I hold both these & MJT, though halved both about a month ago amid strengthening concerns about the export famine.

Just can't make up my mind about Japan. Sure the listed companies sell at below book value; but that in itself doesn't make the market a BUY. Now with the yen likely to weaken, with or without official intervention, the exchange rate support will be pulled from under the asset values.

I suspect the time to go overweight is when there are very clear signs of global recovery, then Japan may be at the forefront of the gainers.

In the meantime my preferred sectors are Gold/Silver (esp. HOC) & Commercial Property (preferred blue-chip play = LAND).

One day these will rocket, as they did a few years ago in the .com years. Trouble is it's starting to feel like I'll be dead by then!!!

Japan futures up again following todays rise so maybe set for continued gains.Would be good if the Yen reverses which will certainly assist.
