28/7/2014 09:14 | Cinema plan for the Metquarter An independent cinema chain which mainly operates in the South of England is vying to open a site in Liverpool's Metquarter. The proposal is the first part of a package of improvement measures for the centre, which has struggled with the opening of Liverpool One and the impact of the recession. Everyman Cinemas, which was originally founded in London, would operate a cinema with three screens and one private screen across two floors in the Liverpool city centre development, under the new plans lodged with Liverpool City Council. The cinema would have a total floorspace of about 10,700 sq ft, which would be 9 per cent of the total development. Everyman Cinemas screen mainstream, art house and classic films and also host special events. They also usually have a bar and serve food. The brand's only other Northern cinema is in Trinity Leeds, a £350m shopping and leisure centre which opened in the centre of the Yorkshire city in March 2013. The Metquarter, which opened in 2006, houses a number of high-end retailers and independents | philanderer | |
