Cinema plan for the Metquarter

An independent cinema chain which mainly operates in the South of England is vying to open a site in Liverpool's Metquarter. The proposal is the first part of a package of improvement measures for the centre, which has struggled with the opening of Liverpool One and the impact of the recession.

Everyman Cinemas, which was originally founded in London, would operate a cinema with three screens and one private screen across two floors in the Liverpool city centre development, under the new plans lodged with Liverpool City Council.
The cinema would have a total floorspace of about 10,700 sq ft, which would be 9 per cent of the total development.

Everyman Cinemas screen mainstream, art house and classic films and also host special events. They also usually have a bar and serve food.

The brand's only other Northern cinema is in Trinity Leeds, a £350m shopping and leisure centre which opened in the centre of the Yorkshire city in March 2013.
The Metquarter, which opened in 2006, houses a number of high-end retailers and independents

The GO Guide: cool things to do in London this weekend (Jul 11-13)

A comedy festival, a flower show and alfresco cinema, London is all guns blazing this weekend as we march further into glorious July

.......We're especially excited about a new summer screen popping up by Battersea Power Station that will show cult movies programmed by Everyman Cinema, and also involves grub from our friends at Street Feast. And a new film by Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, Before Sunrise, School of Rock) is always a reason to rejoice.

I see Shares mag says with the economy in recovery we have more and more money in our pockets to spend on entertainment, they sight Essenden (ten pin bowling) and Cineworld as winners. I would also like to think Everyman will get a decent chunk of that growing pot.
