Whither is gone the wisdom and the power
That ancient sages scattered with the notes
Of thought-suggesting lyres? The music floats
In the void air; e'en at this breathing hour,
In every cell and every blooming bower
The sweetness of old lays is hovering still:
But the strong soul, the self-constraining will,
The rugged root that bare the winsome flower
Is weak and withered. Were we like the Fays
That sweetly nestle in the fox-glove bells,
Or lurk and murmur in the rose-lipped shells
Which Neptune to the earth for quit-rent pays,
Then might our pretty modern Philomels
Sustain our spirits with their roundelays.

– Hartley Coleridge (1833)

-EARNINGS PER SHARE DOWN A WHOPPING 25% FOR THE LAST HALF-YEAR.

-EXCELLENT RECENT POST BY MASURENGUY -POST 255- GIVING VERY USEFUL SECTOR FEEDBACK ABOUT THE RECENT POOR PERFORMANCE AT SECTOR BELLWETHER CINEWORLD WHICH IS NOW BEING HEAVILY SHORTED.

-POTENTIAL START OF SECTOR PRICE WAR WITH VUE CINEMAS NOW OFFERING "ALL DAY EVERY DAY" TICKETS FOR £6.99

-LAST HALF-YEAR AVERAGE ADMISSION SEAT PRICES WAS NEGATIVE COMPARED TO PREVIOUS COMPARISON PERIOD.

Looks like a very difficult operating environment for the cinema sector.

And behind this, the ever-evolving and non-stop increase of home high quality streaming will continue to detract.

The SHARE PRICE PERFORMANCE HAS BEEN ON A SIGNIFICANTLY DOWNWARDS TREND SINCE IT PEAKED AT 260p+ IN MARCH 2018. BY NOW THIS SHARE PRICE PERFORMANCE IS DOWN BY ALMOST 30% IN A DECLINE to 185p.

THE SHARE PRICE GRAPH DIRECTION IS RESOLUTELY DOWN.

Crispin Lilly, Chief Executive Officer of Everyman Media Group PLC said:"The appetite for Everyman has never been stronger with our continued roll-out allowing us to deliver exceptional experiences to more audiences across the UK with our increasing footprint. As a result, we have seen progress across both our financial and operational KPIs, with growth in revenue and operating profit driven by increasing admissions and F&B spend. This has resulted in the record market share we are reporting today.""Our ambitious roll out continues both in the UK and with our first international site, which is due to open in Ireland next year. We are confident that there is significant room for expansion. We look forward to delivering our proven model to additional communities in both countries in the current period and beyond."

The increasing maturity of recent new sites and economies of scale as the business grows means profits are on a sharp growth trajectory with pretax profit of £2.9m this year set to climb to £5.3m and £7.1m over the next two years. The numbers are distorted initially by fit out and depreciation charges but cash flows are climbing.

One interesting thing is that Everyman has consistently increased the overall income per visitor, even though many of its new cinemas have been outside the M25, where tickets are cheaper. Food and beverage spend was £6.95 (+13%) in the latest H1, which helped take total average spend up 4% to £18.22. This, says Lilly, has been achieved because sites outside the M25 have greater spend on food and beverage

hahaha

you really think that the mums who take their brats to see such wonderful arts films now being shown at the Everyman such as "Frozen" or "The Grinch" don't care about the price of tickets...

by the way, you want to take a look at the whether the average spend per ticket for the last 6mth period was up, flat or down.

the average spend per admission ticket was DOWN.

given the current industry backdrop and trend, this is likely to deteriorate further.

.............shall now be taking a much closer look at the figures and will report back...

...as a starter I would suggest that investors reflect very carefully on the fact that revenue for same period to end July 2019 was 16% HIGHER whereas EARNINGS PER SHARE were DOWN a massive 25%.

that's not good, is it.....

All is not rosy in the cinema world !

"Cineworld, the FTSE 250 company is being shorted by nine institutions. Hedge funds have been put on alert by its $3.3bn debt pile, the rising popularity of streaming services and fears that next year’s film slate may underwhelm. Some 17% of its shares are on loan to short-sellers, which seek to profit if the share price falls. Cineworld reported a 13% drop in half-year pre-tax profits to $140m in August, and its share price is down by 23% since the turn of the year." The Sunday Times, 24 November, 2019.
