Market aware Russia closed this week...drops price...people sell so they can drop further.

DFS confirmation to be expected next week (should have been in December)...once this released and public information I wouldn't expect conclusion to the FSP to follow too far behind

A steep rise in share price and less trolling on bulletin boards.

So question is. How will we be aware that they are closing the shorts because that would be key. They would not have to notify because it would not be affecting any threshold. Or am i wrong?

It would work really well since they would be the only ones who would know whether they are going to agree a deal or not, and all they have to do is ensure that the short is closed before they agree the deal, ie minutes before.
They could use a trusted third party too to distance themselves from any enquiry. Very clever if possible.

Sounds plausible. I wonder what the specific wording of the applicable regulation is.

Ie owner, holder, interest in, another?

Having thought about the 'shorting' thing a bit..
Have arrived at the following possibility..

It could be used as an asset transfer mechanism..
ie .. 'short' the paper asset (with the advantage of leverage )
- price goes down..
.. Use the depressed price .. to 'Load up & buy the actual 'physical' Item..
(In this case .. Shares .. rather than some 'trading spread bet' position.

Close the Shorts..

doesn't really matter if they have 'won or lost'
.. so long as they have enabled you to get the actual assets..

Then Ride the Rocket ship .. with 100% .. 'Legal' .. 'Ownership'

As sort of .. 'takeover .. without having to declare any position.. as the 'negative' Short positions .. cancel out the purchases..

.. Clever eh.. totally un-detectable .. and best of all 'Legal'..
Takeover by proxy..

- Or maybe I have a great future career... writing sophisticated Crime novels..

Seroxat - initially my reason was primarily to prevent my shares being lent to shorters but once taken, that step could lead, in the event of a bid higher than my limit price,, to a forced sale when the share price would immediately jump to the bid price and then the sale would of course be automatic. I have now revised my limit price and set it to 3 pounds. Thanks for your advice!

You're not at risk if you don't set a sell limit. The reason some larger holders are keen to set sell limits way higher than the actual share price is because to do so prevents those shares being lended out, ie being shorted,

Personally, while I think the concept of shorting is ridiculous, I don't really care if they get shorted because if the share price falls as a result it creates an opportunity to buy cheaper.

The reason we are at 30p and not 43p is partly due to short positions, but at some point those shorts will close and the share price will rise rapidly...at least I hope it does.

Anyone care to help me out ?
I’m a complete novice who happily stumbled into EUA 24hrs before the suspension.
I am seeing posts advising to set sell limits... for reasons I do not understand.
Can anyone help me understand in simple terms ?
Am I vulnerable in any way by not setting a limit ?
I just hold my shares in a stocks and shares ISA with a Lloyd’s. Holding in hope of a successful FSP.

I know some brokers limit how high you can place a sell order. If you're not restricted where's the harm in putting it at £3. Unlikely but you just never know what AP have found, whose bidding, what the DFS is going to show and if there's some ongoing agreement linked to future REM prices. Nobody knows but I do think £1 is a tad on the low side. Presumably you've put a sell order in to prevent them being loaned out, otherwise you'll have plenty of time to sell if/when a sale is announced at what will be the highest price achieved by EUA

seroxat - Me too! But what to do? Make it £2, or £3?

ex - a bit more than 30p I'd imagine! probably at least 10x that.

That plan released last year suggested annual production of a million ounces equivalent for 40 years!

Now just consider the implications even if we only manage half of that...

Now what share price can we imagine?

I hope your limit sell at £1 isn't too low, the longer this goes on the more optimistic I am it'll be over £1

Ex - stop losses are for traders rather than long term holders. I personally have a limit sell order set at £1 and still hold all of my remaining 1.4m shares from November 2020 having sold a few to buy essentials like a house etc. The company is in an excellent financial position and has no need to rush the sale through. I am content to wait for either an offer or development of the assets which will undoubtedly result in a share price in the pounds. Either way imho this is going to be worth far in excess of today's 30p. So I'm going to hold, relax and enjoy the ride.
