Paul talks a good game but that net debt a tad ugly.

He arguably made a mistake in not halving the dividend at the start of his tenure.

Might be worth a look on wider equity volatility.

Essentra said business was improving and that it would consider restarting dividends in the current year as it posted a 40% decline in underlying profit. Adjusted operating profit for the six months to the end of June fell to £29m from £48m as revenue dropped 11% to £448m. The company paid no interim dividend and said it was on track to meet market expectations for annual profit.

Essentra ticked higher after saying it has reached a settlement with the US Department of Justice and will pay a $666,543 cash penalty related to unauthorised transactions dating back to 2018 by two employees of its subsidiary, Essentra FZE, and linked to North Korea.

Just one aspect of that update I would caution on slightly -

Essentra's most profitable division by some margin is components,
which disproportionately suffered a revenue hit.

So the overall June revenue drop of approximately 1%,
may be a larger drop in terms of the P&L.

The same applies to the revenue declines in April, May etc.

Well it may have taken some aback.

Points to market share gain, although no margin comment in that update,
which is arguably equally important.

COVID has also given ESNT the opportunity to rebase the dividend going forward.
The payout was too high imv and probably should have been cut at the start of Paul's tenure.

-1%? That's actually very good in this environment.

Hi Phil, perhaps should have bought a few, had a quick read through and thought
free cash flow does not even cover the dividend? - but perhaps I misread it?.
