He is imo here deploying his version of brinksmanship and the Chinese are calling his bluff. America under trump wants it their way in every sense from every angle and that is just not possible. The escalation of the trade war between the US and China should not be underestimated, all indices were down today, the SP500 VIX is up 28% and all future indices are red.
Commodities took a beating apart from the safe haven gold.
It might be time to man the lifeboats until things settle down.
Let's hope someone backs down as this dispute has the potential to kill global growth and with it the price of oil.
