Once criticised for never doing anything with their spare cash, they have been proved right to hold on to the cash. they stand a much better chance of picking up a bargain as time goes on . This is a carefully run business, and pays a good dividend.

Results of the underlying business are pretty good today. Need to do the right deal with the cash pile to improve medium term prospects here. Properties need to be sold given they are a non-performing asset, so might as well take the hit if it saves £100k per annum.

Well I've added a few today. Looks pretty good value with a near 6% yield and a very solid balance sheet + strong recurring revenues and cash generative business model. It's probably time to grow the business more or sell off the business at some point. Be interesting to see how things develop, but quite good value I think.

Nick, if you are still around I think one the main issues here is the
market that EDP address.

This market is consolidating and independents appear to be closing in
numbers.

Have the Board not looked at other potential markets?.

Also take a look at how few shares the Directors hold, the Chairman
being the exception.

All just imv, DYOR as always - not suprised with the market reaction
with another recession now looming large.

Good Interim profits and ticking up. Can't be much safer than this on the market (with cash and property) and at a bargain price. Simply off everyone's radar and has been for a long time.

Respectable results, I wonder what they'll do with that cash and when and at what price they'll shift those other three properties.

EI Every share I ever owned that had someone or institution owning over 50% ended badly. They were taken off the market despite even being cash/asset rich and quite capable of continuing for everyone concerned. Those directors are con artists IMO and took their companies back after blatantly exploiting the market.

I have EDP simply because of the cash and assets and dividend yield and no one has over 50% or even close to it. I think there will be a special dividend on its way after the sale of its head office.

Nick

How people could see the outcome on TTS really suprised me,
TB held about 70% from memory.

I will have a look at the major holders here in detail,
would like to get a handle on the total % holdings by Directors.
The last time I looked the Estate of the late CEO held a large %,
unsure if that remains the case.

This won't do a TTS simply because the management do not own over 50% of the company. TTS took advantage of being management controlled and delisted. Likely they will now buy out the minority shares for very little ( no choice for minority shareholders). I think one director owned over 50%.

EDP is free of that.
It's a cheap cash/asset rich company but at the moment no one wants to buy it.

This takes me back folks.

EDP was one of the first shares I ever traded, 1991 from memory.
At the time EPD had a similar market cap to Sage.

I wonder is there some value here, or will this go down a similar path
to TTS.

A property located in UK which was valued at £1750000 in Q2 of 1988, would be worth approximately £6034041 in Q2 of 2010.

Possibly playful, but what do you think the house was worth?

Looks like Peter Burrows got himself a bargain at our expense.

Good to see Michael Heller buying 50k. If they can sell the other three properties at above book value then these should be seriously cash rich soon.

Agreed, they failed to return my call too.

It's clear to me they didn't want to admit selling to a property developer who'd only buy anything seriously below market value, so you'd have to wonder why they couldn't move out & gain rental income from the hall themselves?

I did note vote but tried to speak to the directors and left a message but they never came back to me...Communication has never been a strong point with them.

I'm glad it's going topvest. It must cost a fortune to maintain and it's hard to see why such a small software company would want to operate from a property like that.

Given the Chairman is also the Chairman of London & Associated Properties I suspect he knows what he is doing when it comes down to property. There's probably not that much demand for these big homes in Sheffield. I expect it probably needed lots of work and the running costs very high. I agree the price looks low, but the Chairman knows property better than most of us.

This property should have been marketed via a London agent to achieve the best possible price for shareholders. We deserve to know how much marketing was actually undertaken before being awarded to a so called engineering company.

Is there much of an estate with beauchirf hall? Could there be some sort of development in the grounds? Have the board explored all the options for the property?
