is this good news?

"The management of Electronic Data Processing, the London-listed technology group, is believed to be readying itself to make a bid for the firm as early as this week."

Results look better but then they should. They have disposed of property again in order to increase profits but despite the roll in of vectar turnover is only slightly up.

I think we also need to understand why spend on R&D is still £620K (£1.3m) when will this be fruitful. What are they researching after all these years.

My holding is still trading at less than 50% and I see acquisitions and property sales having no effect on share price.

Having held for as long as i can remember these results show that the company has turned a corner for me.Although in a difficult market they seem to be focussing a bit more on shareholder value. With NAV 60P minus 5p special after selling freehold not needed ,these are still great value as an asset play.
if the business can finally start to grow then who knows?

I think the future could be very interesting. I imagine new management may well follow a different strategy. My view is that significant shareholder value could be created by seperating and disposing of the real estate and the hosting/ISP from the core software solutions business. I think that this would leave a pure solutions play. If I were running it, I would rebrand to loose the negative assosciation the brand has in the market place and consolidate the various solutions into a single cohesive offering. I believe significant cost savings could be achieved by these strategies. If it did this I think the software business could be a powerful player in the sector and win significant new business organically as well as through its partially successful acquisition strategy.

The interim results are due soon which I suspect will be more or less the same as last year at this time. If the business is stagnant then we could be in for an interesting ride. Maybe they will announce a new MD at the same time.

Simply, as feedthegoat indicated, the company is asset rich particularly with regards to it's property portfolio, simply look at the accounts.

Whereas, regarding software, very little seems to have been forthcoming.

I understand that Mr Jowitt is the one and only driving force behind this company, therefore we shareholders may be in for interesting times, whether in a new direction, or takeover.

To post something as you have done so soon after that person has tragically died suggests you must have some very strong personal experience involving them....Can you expand on this ??

I must say that I spoke to Mr Jowitt only on the telephone but found him to be very helpful and genuinely keen to assist shareholders in understanding the company.

Are you suggesting there will be a major change in the business direction or property related deals ?

Sorry feedthegoat but a less genuine person would be difficult to find.

I suspect your pension fund is safe, because although he drove the company into a software wilderness, he maintained a useful property portfolio that could now be of real interest.

its a bit of a shocker as he was a genuine person.when i said a lot of my pension fund was riding on his company he said that the whole of his was riding on it also.Sadly he never made it to draw on it.
he has a sizeable stake so the price rise means the company is in play.
heller has other interests in the City and is even older so he is likely to call it quits i think.Expect a takeover as it is asset rich.

Shares up at least 10% since Jowitt's death

Coincidence or was he holding back the company?

Any ideas feedthegoat, you met 'em more than most?

Some news:

Electronic Data Processing buys Vecta Software for 900,000 stg

Electronic Data Processing PLC (EDP), which supplies software to UK wholesalers, said that it has bought the business and certain assets of
Vecta Software Corporation for 900,000 stg cash.
EDP said it expects the acquisition to be earnings neutral in the current
financial year and earnings enhancing in the 2007/08.

Have to say that I haven't heard of any of the companies used in the case studies:

At least they're still trying.

well there it is...how do you acquire that amount of stock in a tightly traded company, one of the long standing institutions perhaps or one of the execs there arn't that many.

5% of the company just changed hands. If they closed the company down the NA are more than the share price so the business is in for nothing.
