Poor bid by the sole jobber is one reason.

If anyone wishes to sell, try placing a sale limit "on the board" or "below the line". It is the same thing, depending on your broker's preferred terminology.

These PI board limits previously displayed continuously through the day. But the LSE now displays these orders for only a few minutes at a time, so a potential matching buyer needs to know in advance that a selling limit will flash up.

Absurd, especially given the new Mifid era of "Greater Transparency" !

So, via this means, let us know if you place board limits.

Some PIs will be keen to match, one way or the other, depending on price.

Rather dimishes your original question though, doesn't it, even whilst it relies on the primary assumption that 'they' (the managers) are actually bidding for any and the secondary 'bet' that there is a line of stock waiting to be sold.

they need to sell off all their holdings and return the cash to shareholders
awful performance but least the dividend is ok
increasing the dividend by say 50% might have encourage the gap to close but that was never going to happen

sad really that they can't be bothered with smaller shareholders and that is why the value of the shares has fallen so much
really need outside influence to change performance which has been very poor
