So what reasons have they given for not wanting to do things this way?

Absolutely, Alchemy. For many years, since the progressive grant of international approvals and the appointment of distributors, Eden's sales have remained stagnant. The problem is that it has no strategy to deal with this, beyond relying on its partners. Many are large, multi-nationals, for whom Eden is at the bottom of their priorities. This is a pity, but something than needs to be addressed. Were I Smith, I would appoint a small team of individuals tasked with driving sales - on a salaried basis to start with, then on salary + commission. To drive sales, there needs to be direct contact with prospective customers, not just advertising on agri shop fronts.

Another way of putting this. Regulatory approval is a necessary pre-requisite to taking orders so now EDEN must turn to focus on orders. New orders, repeat orders , volume orders much of this through much bigger marketing partners. Weak signals that this can happen can be seen in year on year turnover figures though they are still small in absolute terms. The results for the next four half years will be crucial for us early adopter's

I imagine that is the plan with the recent Syngenta and Sipcam corporate interface Appointments of Global Commercial Lead and Global Product and Marketing Lead.

MNS: As I understand the protocol, extensive and successful field-trials are required before any country/region will grant approval. Such approval signals not only that the product is safe, but that it does what it claims. Eden has notified shareholders of multiple field-trials over the years. It now needs to market the blooming stuff! Its failure is condign punishment for its serial marketing incompetence.

Well that I don't understand unless it is due to the contract situation or simply management perception of a loss of control and fear of being seen to lack professionalism, perhaps?

ComIng back to the contract situation is not the problem set in srone at source in the fact that to even get these products to work (practically tested), registered and into the public domain, they need a partner who will carry out field tests and such like to shoulder those costs. If eden had to do all of this alone at its own cost the company could not survive particularly as it is working against major market interests (i.e those same distributor partners). It may mean that eden's latent IP value will always exceed actual sales and a low ball(?) takeover bid will happen in future.

Erinvale,

I find it hard to square your 'stumbling along failing at every turn' on multiple levels with the progress Eden has made and the recent corporate interface appointments of Eden partners Syngenta and Sipcam

Yesterday yet another regulatory approval. There have been dozens of these, but they do not translate to meaningful sales. Today an announcement of a new bureaucrat to fill out forms on the shareholders dime. Atrocious. What exactly do the directors do all day. Ask Tricky, apparently they can't be fired.

MNS: not only offered, but actually effected, introductions. A waste of my time, as it turned out. One producer repeatedly contacted Eden at the highest level, but got nowhere. Didn't do my reputation much good!

Hi Ken, so good to hear from you again. We have followed Eden and 3DM together for decades. The latter evinced identical issues to Eden - world-beating product (turning recyclables into useful material) - accompanied by an utter failure to deliver. Eden, as 3DM, has the products to be a massive international success, yet it stumbles along, failing at every turn. By they way, is MW still going? Best wishes.

Erinvale good morning. If you have this sort of access to major producers have you offered your services to Eden ln a marketing role? But if you have already alerted these people what else can Eden possibly tell them that you haven't? We know the products work as they are sold around the world, not may be in the quantities that you or I would like, but nevertheless there are a lot of farmers using them so efficacy is not the issue. These farmers do not want to spend money on a new product when they already have something that works and I do not see how Eden can get itself in the business of producing product for free bcause we would very quickly find the company had gone bust.

Furthermore, do you actually know that this sort of activity would be permitted under the distributor contract deals that Eden has struck? I rather suspect that it would not be allowed and whilst that puts Eden at the mercy of those companies and the extent of the efforts they are prepared to make to sell Eden's products this is something that I think we do have to accept although to my mind at least I agree it is a major issue and is perhaps the only reason why I would choose to sell my investment in this company.

Thanks for the excellent posts Erinvale which explain the weird Eden situation so well. I’ve never understood how Eden Management have failed so dismally for multiple years now, to get sales from their apparently superb products. It’s crazy that potential big customers have never even heard of them. I keep an eye just in case that ever changes as surely on the first signs of genuine sales that could then be built on fast, the share price would soar? I would buy straight away on those first genuine signs but will that ever happen under current failed Management?

If the products are licensed in the target countries, there should be no hurdles. The regions I recommended would be in Europe, the USA, South Africa and possibly, Aus /NZ. Eden has spend much time, money and effort obtaining licences for its products. It now needs to get them into these major wine- and grape-producing regions. It has enough consultants to sink several ships, so the logistics should not be beyond them. Mind you, given their proven ineptitude, making the office chair face the window might be a struggle too far.

I have supported Eden since inception, largely in recognition of the need for these kind of products. As the years have gone by, it has become clear that they are incapable of delivering. As I recall mentioning before, if they found gold beneath the office floor, they would employ a metal specialist, a product distribution consultant and a few other expensive hands, and then try to work out how to move the chairs to extract the precious metal. A model of a bureaucracy-driven outfit, if ever there was one. I still have a holding in Eden - four shares = but am not expecting to retire on the profits!

Erinvale,

Yes we agree it's a great product but how do you plan to overcome the structural and institutional hurdles my question/s posed to achieve the outcomes you anticipate?

Super: dealing directly with producers would ensure trial use on the upcoming harvest or post harvest as the fungicide allows. These problems affect many wine regions annually. If, as expected, the products worked then word would spread dramatically. Oidium and mildew are constant problems which degrade crop size and quality and thereby reduce profit. As yet, there is no solution beyond spraying with damaging fungicides etc.

Eden has fantastic products which are not getting to these markets which desperately need them. The ‘top down’ rather than ‘bottom up’ approach makes far more sense and is the best route, in my view, to achieving rapid infiltration and resultant sales growth.

Erinvale,

A few starter questions as your solution sounds simplistic to me but I'm not a wine industry insider like you so any further detail would be appreciated.

When you say 'Rapid' ..what do you mean ? and how do you work with regulators on this 'rapid' approach ? is their a 'rapid' route that Eden failed to understand? and how do you fund production and distribution networks ?

.............

A 2016 statistic worth remembering;

According to Redag, the crop protection industry normally spends $250 million over a 9-year period testing up to 140,000 candidate compounds in order to bring a single new product to market.

Good morning MNS. A credible marketing plan would be to make direct contact with 10-20 top producers in each major wine region and send them free trial samples of the fungicide and nematicide products. Successful results would spread the word like wildfire. Winemakers talk to each other. So, low cost - rapid benefit. Instead, we have seen years of ‘top distributors’ yet the main producing regions and top wine estates have not even heard of Eden, let alone tried its products. How this amounts to success - or “propelling Eden forward”, as Smith describes it - defeats me.

Appointment of new Head of Regulatory Affairs

Eden Research plc (AIM: EDEN), a leader in sustainable biopesticide and biocontrol technology, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ilshad Moulan as the Company's new Head of Regulatory Affairs. Ilshad will bring his experience in the agrochemical sector to lead Eden Research's regulatory strategy and execution, helping to ensure the successful global registration of its innovative crop protection solutions.

Ilshad has strong expertise in regulatory affairs management having led teams and managed complex projects across the industry. With a BSc degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology and an MSc degree in Crop Protection and Regulatory Science, his strong scientific background complements his regulatory expertise.

At Dr. Knoell Consult Ltd, Ilshad led a team of nine, focusing on regulatory affairs. His career began at Agrauxine, where he played a key role in developing dossiers for biopesticide active ingredients and formulated plant protection products. Additionally, his previous roles at Evergreen Garden Care and Battelle involved supporting and managing regulatory submissions for conventional active ingredients and formulated products.

Ilshad Moulan commented:

"I am thrilled to join Eden Research at such an exciting time. I look forward to using my regulatory expertise to support Eden's mission of delivering sustainable solutions to the agricultural sector and ensuring our products reach farmers worldwide as quickly and efficiently as possible."

Ilshad will be based at Eden Research's headquarters in Oxfordshire and will begin his new role immediately. He succeeds Dr. Mike Carroll who will retire at the end of a handover period. Mike has served as Eden's first-ever regulatory leader and played a key role in not only establishing Eden's in-house regulatory capabilities, but in successfully expanding the regulatory authorisations for Eden's existing and new products.

Sean Smith, CEO of Eden Research, added:

"We are delighted to welcome Ilshad to our team. His extensive background in regulatory affairs, combined with his leadership skills, will be a tremendous asset as we continue to navigate the complex regulatory landscape and bring our sustainable biopesticide products to market. At the same time, we thank Mike for all of his contributions over the past four years. His experience and leadership have been helpful in propelling our business forward and expanding our geographical footprint, and we are grateful for all his contributions. We wish Mike all the best for a long, happy retirement."

"I seem to remeber someone on the MW board held similar views to you, erinvale. Perhaps that was you? I think Eden would have spaffed all its money hy now if it had followed your plan as Eden is selling globally and I don't think it is realistic for them to take on direct marketing to push sales. It would already have gone bust. They are reliant on distributors which may have its flaws but at least its cheap."
