Value of production of fresh apples at basic price is 4 trillion euros for Europe.

France has 20% market share, 800 billion euros.

What % of that value is lost to "storage diseases" and what % of that can Mevalone protect?

Come on Eden. Tell us how big this market is in Europe!

Bigger than grapes you say, well how much bigger then?

This 120 day 'Grant of 'Emergency use' with Post harvest of Mevalone and Cedroz and the lack of follow up approvals looks like a new strategy to marketing and Product development/PR etc.

It will be interesting to see the timing of the other country approvals. I suspect they will be slow in arriving.

The approach only makes sense if it's to suit Sumiagro/Eden as it does not take much grey matter to wonder why France with Mevalone and Italy with Cedroz are unique in their urgent need to be Granted 'Emergency use'.

Investing,

I don't think we have heard anything about the progress of the Post Harvest treatment for a while and the only specific Eden Apples reference I recall was related to Apple Scab in a 2015 Sipcam related RNS. We did have Antione Meyer of SumiAgro mention it in a news item a few months ago where it was anticipated it would be being rolled out Winter 19.

'Among the other novelties expected, a biocontrol fungicide based on microencapsulated terpenes for the fight against pome fruit conservation diseases. The biocontrol insecticide Oikos will benefit from a new formulation'.

They have also told us this which extends the opportunities for post harvest application much wider than Apples alone.

'Post Harvest Applications
Eden’s objective is to improve fruit and vegetable quality by reducing storage soft rots.
These diseases are similar to the Botrytis disease in grapes where efficacy of Eden product 3AEY is already proven. Shelf life extension, lack of pesticide residues and improved produce quality are key objectives in this high-value market'.

Excellent for the consumer if they can make the skin safe from pesticidal residue. That's where the greatest health benefit resides. Get the word out there, and ensure that the consumer becomes aware of the brand in association with the product, thus guiding choice.

Today's RNS is significant in my opinion. I don't recall Eden saying they had applied for regulatory approval for Mevalone use on apples, but my brain may be fuddled :).

It is the post-harvest treatment of apples that I think is huge news. It tells the investment market (if anyone is listening) that Mevalone now sits between field and Supermarket. The PR opportunity here is huge and the ability to communicate the same to the point of sale retail market is more than a worthy one. And , the retail point of sale market will want to know about this story. Let's hope that Cenkos and Powerscourt make something of this.

Having worked with the Supermarkets myself, shelf-life is everything, so I think this is a major global success in the waiting for Eden and its chosen distribution partners for Mevalone for use on apples.

An apple a day...…..

Well done Eden and Sumi.

Super, what is the global size in £'s/$/s of apples versus wine grapes?

Northwick,

The only part of your post I agree with is 'Eden’s main focus is on plant protection'. This SS has stated in his Proactive interviews.

The rest I completely disagree with and runs contrary to all TT related communications/ presentations made by Eden and as such the bases for your comments are not evidenced anywhere imo.

I'd be interested to know how you came to the conclusion that the whole Consumer products Vertical as described on Eden's Web page is an irrelevance?

Are you sure your not missing a piece of the Scie sauteuse ? or being a mischievous Parallel Delay contrarian?

SuperThink your expectations of Eden and In particular of TT are too high in my estimation. TT is a private company are aren't liable to the same rules of disclosure as Eden is. Eden's main focus is on plant protection and, as I see it, ain't bothered too much about TT prospects. TT will not have any material impact on Eden's future.

Northwick,

They told us they were going to. So maybe I've missed something?
Given the repeated delays surely it would be wise to have someone on the board to keep fully aware of progress in the consumer products Vertical where Eden have a 30% stake.

Perhaps ''in due course' is as flexible a term as 'In the coming' and 'short Order' In Eden speak?

'Given the progress that TerpeneTech is making and in order for Eden to take a bigger share of the potential future value that will be derived from this relationship, it was agreed that Eden should now take a strategic stake in TerpeneTech. In addition to the Investment made, Eden has the right to appoint a director to the Board of TerpeneTech and it shall do so in due course'.

I see..Eden have a 30% Stake in TT and a Director on the Board so I expect news on any delays (which have become habitual) to be telegraphed in a timely fashion as although no licence fee will be forthcoming, some early sales revenues will be most welcome.

No news is good news except when it's omitted.

Lets hope the other revenue sources you mention are forthcoming .

I also hope Cenkos can advise Eden on how to improve it's investor information management model as the one it's been using for the last umpteen years is redundant imo and risks loosing credibility especially in relation to TT and Bayer.

Botrytis: defense passes through control throughout the production cycle

In the face of a fresh and rainy spring, the vine will soon have to face the first botrytis infections. Stopping their spread by keeping the conidical charge low and preventing infections in the important phases is essential.

Intraperitoneal Millevigne Promotion

A season, the 2019, which will be remembered for a long time for the profound differences that characterized winter and spring / summer. While the former turned out to be mild and stingy with rain, the latter in fact took a diametrically opposed path by marking temperatures below the seasonal average and heavy and prolonged rains, particularly until flowering. This has favored pathogens. In some regions downy mildew has been slowed by low temperatures, but this has not happened for botrytis: the flowering phase is the only time during which the pathogen enters the acinus as latent mycelium, and remains there, even if the the subsequent course of the season is mostly dry, as it was this year in various parts of Italy, until the second decade of July.

Later, botrytis will necessarily have to be kept under control during the critical phases of veraison and pre-harvesting. The symptoms will manifest themselves to full load of the bunches, above all in a delicate phase like the veraison, moment in which those deep biochemical and histological changes in the tissues of the berries that will accompany them until the maturation begin. The berries will therefore meet the typical rottenness that they called botrytis with the most common and known name of "gray mold".

The fight against the pathogen, if relegated to the pre-harvest period, will therefore become much more complex and expensive, at the same time increasing the uncertainty of the results, strongly influenced by the meteorological conditions that sometimes accompany the harvest phases. For these reasons, it is essential to play in advance, preventing botrytis from settling inside the tissues during the flowering period in advance and to continue to keep the pressure of the disease low during the phases of aging and maturation. In addition to agronomic management, phytosanitary treatments are also recommended with products of proven efficacy, especially when weather conditions are proving to be adverse just like those of the present season.

Among the various solutions applicable, we highlight some innovative active substances, with direct action, high efficacy and free of residues, terpenes, natural aromatic substances that have proved capable of stopping the proliferation of the disease. They act in the different phases of the entire cycle of the disease, both on latent mycelium and on conidia, preventing their sporulation.
On the market since 2016 there is a formulated specifically based on terpenes, namely 3LOGY by Sipcam Italia, an aqueous suspension of capsules containing three terpenes selected from among the many existing in nature, namely thymol, geraniol and eugenol.

The use of 3Logy, not only in flowering, but also during veraison and during the maturation phase, with the aim of keeping latent and conidical infections of the disease under control, allows to significantly break down the potential subsequent sporulations

Chemical Pesticide Use Will Be Drastically Reduced in the Long Term

Conclusion

CCPPs will continue to play an important short-term role because of their significance in agricultural efficiency and in increasing yields. The fact that modern CCPPs are IPM compatible and safe makes them important tools for sustainable agricultural intensification. The global use of CCPPs is still forecasted to increase over the next 5 years due to intensification of agriculture, especially in developing countries. Despite the current importance of CCPPs, various trends are contributing to their decline and agriculture companies are facing difficulties in developing new CCPPs. The economic incentive for the industry to develop broad-spectrum CCPPs conflicts with the needs of the market for specific targeted products in IPM. Additionally, the public wants the use of CCPPs to be reduced due to perceived risks. A revolution in the adoption of new technologies will reduce the need for CCPPs and move the industry towards increased sustainable agricultural intensification. These trends have already resulted in a drastic decrease in new active ingredient registrations for CCPPs and an increase in registrations for biopesticides. In my opinion, all of these factors together will lead to a drastic long-term reduction in use or the elimination of CCPPs in many markets.
