As an ANP and EAH holder, a recent article in the FT on African Swine Fever caught my attention. Both companies have said that sales have been hampered in China as they have been unable to visit their clients because of the disease. ANP has of course highlighted this as a major uncertainty in their out look statement and both companies have in my view correct to say that.(.at least at the time they wrote it )that it is difficult to assess how this will wash out on a global basis. Of course ANP has been clear as to the effects on their sales in China. I went to the recent ANP AR to see if this featured in the Key risks and uncertainties section-rather to my surprise I could not find such a section. Obviously a question for the AGM and I note the notice for this has not been issued yet-no surprise as they tend to have it in July. I see from notes from an AGM of a few years back that ANP swine sales were 30% of total worldwide; I have no idea what the percentage is for EAH half of whose sales I see in the FY to 3/18 were in the Far East. Three things stood out for me from the FT article. First is that the disease only got to China in August; second is that the Chinese pig herd is likely to reduce by a third; and that so concerned are the US about the disease that the US National Pork Producers council has cancelled its annual World Pork Expo in Iowa this yea- I guess for ANP this must be an important event given their marketing efforts there-not sure about EAH.

Have been having a look at the financials here & was a little surprised to see the only broker forecast (Peel Hunt I believe) saying EPS of 23.8p for FY18. This seems a pretty significant jump on prior yr & current trend given HY performance, add prior seasonality & this would seem to be quite a stretch. Anyone got a POV on why such a significant increase ? Lot to like here so keen to understand whats going on.

Thanks for that interesting and encouraging read, astonedt. It’s worth quoting the final summing up : “ECO has a global presence with well-established routes to market, we have a strong and developing R&D pipeline which will enable us to expand both geographically and across indications. We are profitable, we are cash generative and I believe that the company has enormous potential.”

I have asked the company and got an immediate reply saying that some markets follow EU approvals whilst in other cases they will accept most of the dossier which shortcuts the process.

All a bit confusing, I agree. They say that “This marketing authorisation is very significant as it provides an opportunity to roll out the approval beyond the EU into the multi-million dollar large international poultry markets.” How or why is that? It suggest s that a number of markets just follow EU approvals, which is rather surprising.

Trying to work out the significance of today’s announcement. In 2016 they got EMA authorization for Aivlosin625 for chickens laying eggs for human consumption; I am going on the basis that today’s announcement widens it for quote breeding chickens producing eggs, for hatching broiler stock and for replacement layers unquote. I am further surmising that this is a smaller market than for chicken laying eggs and as the EU is just 8% of EAH sales, that explains why the markets yawned today. Am I right? I see the reference to replacement layers and I also note that in the interims when discussing the Vietnam Aivlosin 625 approval they referenced EU approval for commercial layers and thus I am abit confused.

Another regulatory approval. “ECO Animal Health Limited (ECO) has received a marketing authorisation from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for the use of Aivlosin® 625 mg/g Water Soluble Granules (WSG) in breeding chickens.” “The EU has five per cent of the world’s layer and ten per cent of the world’s broiler parent stock. This marketing authorisation is very significant as it provides an opportunity to roll out the approval beyond the EU into the multi-million dollar large international poultry markets. This will enable ECO to capitalise on the considerable global potential for Aivlosin® which offers a safe and highly effective medication for Mycoplasma infections in high value breeding birds”.

Agreed. This is a bit of a shock announcement. Not flagged previously I believe. Peter Lawrence is 70, but he's being replaced by someone even older. Maybe its time to wind back his activities. Anyway best wishes to him.

Well the regulatory approvals keep coming. Looking much more positive for 2019 I think. This is a quality company that is growing nicely. Unlike many fraudulent or window-dressed companies, its growth is not straight line and impacted by forex as well. The direction of travel is in the medium term very positive though.

Another regulatory approval. “This approval allows ECO to start selling Aivlosin® in India for the medication of drinking water for the treatment of infections caused by Mycoplasma in poultry laying eggs for human consumption” India is ranked second in the world in terms of egg laying poultry.

Two further licensing deals this month, with universities, to register and commercialise vaccines for poultry. One with Georgia uni’ and now with Ghent. Encouraging to see this additional field of activity developing.

A couple of big trades have gone through at mid price. If they’re buys, that’s encouraging. If they’re sells it suggests that stock is wanted so it’s good either way and makes it likely that 500p will soon be reached and passed. Edit: - followed by a 10,760 shares buy.

I was pleasantly surprised reading today#s RNS of the reduction by Merian in their holding and the share price had absorbed it but I guess the counterpart to this sale is the additions by Blackrock announced on Dec 13.

Just had the chance to run through the interims properly. I am new in this. I note that in this last half year fully diluted eps declined from 7.69p to 7.46 compared to the previous half year ending March 2018. I would not have thought that the rating of this share would tolerate a decline in eps but have been unable to work out if this is seasonal. Any historic perspective welcome. PS Such a joy to read financials without adjustments/extraordinary items PPS Saw the FX sensitivities on page 81 of the last AR and we will get a fillip with the current rate against the dollar which is the most important for EAH but much less for the second most important the Renmenibi where at today#s 8.69 £ has weakened much less.
