Posted at 21/5/2019 20:46 by philanderer Investors Chronicle:'Electrocomponents buys in margin uplift' Electrocomponents (ECM), as its name suggests, should be a distributor whose performance is intertwined with aggregate demand within the economy. But if, as some economists believe, we are already on the down-leg of the cycle, then it certainly is not apparent in full-year figures that show like-for-like revenue growth of 8.3 per cent and a 110 basis point rise in the adjusted operating margin. IC View A decent showing, but it remains to be seen whether a reported slowdown in like-for-like revenue growth in the first seven weeks of its financial year heralds a definitive trend. For now, we think the market is up to speed. Hold. Last IC Vew: Hold, 565p, 21 Nov 2018 |

Though February’s update was solid it did mark a slowdown from the company’s first half performance. In both Q1 and Q2 Electrocomponents posted like-for-like growth of 10%; in comparison, for the 4 months to January 31st covered in its most recent statement, its comparable sales came in at 6%. As for Thursday’s trading update, investors will want to hear that is set to deliver the 10% rise in full year revenue to £1.88 billion, and 16% surge in adjusted pre-tax profit to £210.2 million forecasts by analysts. If they are to do so, then a further like-for-like slowdown in the rest of H2 needs to have been avoided. Read what Spreadex analysts have to say, or watch a 60 second earnings preview video, here: |
