Gas Discovery at ELM-1004

Echo Energy plc, the Latin American focused upstream oil and gas company, is pleased to announce the succesful completion of drilling of the ELM-1004 exploration well at the Company's Fracción C asset, onshore Argentina and a gas discovery for the first well in its four well exploration campaign.

The well has been drilled into the Lower Tobífera formation to a Total Measured Depth of 1,760 metres. The well encountered over 40 metres of gas shows through the Upper Tobífera with gas peaks of over 195,000 ppm and a full distribution of C1 to C5 hydrocarbons, as measured against referenced background gas levels of less than 10,000 ppm outside of the zone.

Pre-drill resources for the ELM-1004 well were calculated on the basis of net pay of 7-11-15m (P90-P50-P10). The determination of net pay from wireline log analysis with the complex mineralogy of the volcanic reservoir is, as normal in the basin, complicated, however initial interpretation computes around 14.5m of net pay within the section, that being towards the upper end of the range and encouraging from a volumetric and value perspective.

A production casing string is currently being run in anticipation of the arrival of the completion rig, scheduled for June 2018, at which point the well will be tested to determine deliverability of the reservoir.

Following completion of this phase of the operation on the ELM-1004, the rig will move directly to the second prospect in our four well exploration progamme, Los Alamos x-1 (ELA-1).

"We are very excited to have confirmed the presence of a substantial gas column in this first well of our four well exploration programme and look forward to the arrival of the completion rig and subsequent testing in June. Meanwhile our attention turns to ELA-1 where we expect to spud the well within the next few days."

Argentina’s government plans to approve 19 unconventional gas projects in the country’s Vaca Muerta formation by June, Energy Minister Juan José Aranguren said last week.

Most of the projects are in the province of Neuquén.

Nine projects will target shale gas production, eight are tight gas-focused, and two are targeting both tight and shale gas, according to local press. ''

Statement re Argentinian Treasury Exposure

Echo Energy plc, the Latin American focused upstream oil and gas company, notes the current economic situation in Argentina, specifically the domestic interest rate that has recently been increased to 40%. Echo wishes to confirm that it does not hold Argentinian Pesos and that the Company has no borrowings linked to Argentinian domestic interest rates.

The Company's treasury policy is to hold all cash in GBP, USD and Euros, in amounts that cover the Company's exposure to each of those currencies. All capital costs associated with the Company's ongoing Argentinian work programme are priced in USD and converted to Pesos only as required at point of payment. Similarly, sales are denominated in USD and are only converted to Pesos on receipt of funds. These receipts are used to pay local operating costs that are due in Pesos, and, as a result, the Company's exposure to the recent weakening of the Peso has been positive.

Echo Energy kicks off exploration drilling in Argentina

It marks the start of a hotly anticipated four-well campaign for the explorer.

Echo Energy Plc (LON:ECHO) has told investors it has now begun drilling the first of four back-to-back exploration wells in Argentina.

All four wells are being drilled within the Fracción C asset.

The first well, referred to as ELM-1004, is targeting the crest of a structure that’s estimated to host some 38bn cubic feet of potential gas resources.

It is located around four kilometres from the Estancia La Maggie gas collection facilities, and thus has potential to be commercialised relatively quickly.

"We are delighted to be starting our exciting four well exploration campaign shortly after the successful workover well campaign in Fracción D,” said Fiona MacAulay, Echo chief executive.

Echo added that an extended flow period has now been completed at the CSo-85 well, at Fracción D, following successful work-over, and, the well will now be shut-in for a planned pressure build up.

Further announcements regarding both wells are anticipated as the respective programmes advance.
